With the additions of Casey Kotchman and Victor Martinez, the Red Sox have a lot of flexibility in their lineups. What’s the best lineup to be putting out there on a nightly basis? If it were up to me, I’d do this: Ellsbury CF Pedroia 2B Martinez C/1B Youkilis 3B Drew RF Bay LF (assuming he’s back) Ortiz/Lowell DH (platoon) Kotchman 1B (or Tek C) Lowrie/Green SS Install Martinez as the starting catcher with Tek spotting him, playing there about twice a week and pushing Martinez to 1B. Lowell can still hit but he’s a statue at 3B--he’s a DH for the rest of the year. And he’ll likely be a nice improvement from Ortiz vs. lefties. Kotchman has a bigger role here than you might expect, but his defense makes him a better choice than Lowell right now.

Fun Was Had By All - Except The Owners

The sun was out, the sky was blue (for most of the game at least), the kids were given a Victor Martinez chest protector backback, and the Indians won. What more you could ask for on a getaway day during the summer? Fausto Carmona pitched his best game since May and the Indians had just enough [...]

Put Away the Foam Finger and Papelbon Puppet: New York Media Declares the 2009 Season Officially Over

It's okay to admit that you felt it, even for a few brief moments. When Victor Martinez went yard in the eighth last night, I had a brief flashback to some of that 2004 magic, when nothing was impossible and no game was out of reach, no matter how dire the circumstance. In fact, watching Ortiz manhandling V-Mart in the dugout after the latter swatted that two-run homer, I swore...

The addition of Victor Martinez is paying dividends offensively for the Red Sox. Just kidding, they get shut out for the second straight game and 24 innings total

BOMBERS UP 6½ AFTER BOSTON MASSACRE

A Red Sox lineup that couldn't score in a brothel with a fistful of hundreds had done just enough to win thanks to Victor Martinez's eighth-inning homer. All Boston needed were six outs from gas-throwing right-handers Daniel Bard and Jonathan...

Wild scramble shaping up

The Tampa Bay Rays and Texas Rangers, the two teams nipping at the Red Sox for the wild card, did nothing at the trading deadline to help put them over the top, while the Sox obtained Victor Martinez. Yet, ladies and gentlemen, this is turning into a pretty heated wild-card race.

Yardwork: The Boston Massacre

New York Yankees 5, Boston 2: Broomage in the Bronx. After 31 innings of scoreless baseball - we knew the offensive would struggle this year, but that’s an absurd stretch of horrible offensive baseball - Victor Martinez clubbed a 2-run homer to give Boston a 2-1 lead in the eighth. Then Damon and Tex clubbed [...]

Inside Pitch: Yankees complete sweep of Red Sox

After a two-run homer by Victor Martinez ended a 31-inning scoreless drought for the Red Sox and put them up by a run in the eighth, the Yankees got back-to-back two-out homers from Johnny Damon and Mark Teixeira to start a four-run rally in their half and beat the Red Sox 5-2 to complete a four-game sweep at Yankee Stadium.

The Cleveland Indians Will Lose $16 Million This Season

Cleveland Indians: Despite receiving revenue sharing from MLB, the Cleveland Indians are gong to lose a whopping $16 million this season. So nobody should be surprised they traded away Cliff Lee and Victor Martinez. Said team president Paul Dolan: “If every four or five years we can have a shot at the World Series like [...]

Yankees Complete Four Game Sweep of Sox

For a few brief moments last night, it appeared that the Red Sox actually had a chance of coming out of the Bronx with a win and avoiding the sweep. With a 2-1 lead thanks to a great outing from Jon Lester, and a two run homer from Victor Martinez, Daniel Bard came in to [...]Yankees Complete Four Game Sweep of Sox is a post from: Boston Sports Media Watch

Sweep success

One of my friends had an extra ticket to last night's game, so I was able to take in all the action in the expensive field level seats down the left field line. The area had waiter service and padded seats, but I digress. The game was absolutely incredible and the atmosphere was great. It really felt like we were watching old playoff games in the old Stadium. As critical as...
