The 33 y/o switch hitter has a lifetime BA of .299 while averaging 35 HRs and 115 RBIs per season. This year he's hitting .274 with 25 HRs and 80 RBIs, that type of production would be a welcome addition to the Mets even if they had to tolerate porous defense. Of course, there maybe an underlying motive to the Stros dissatisfaction, afterall; they are one of the teams who are considered to be financially struggling and Berkman has a very large contract. Their dissatisfaction may have more to do with not feeling that they're getting full value on their dollar, then it has to do with the slight dip in his production...Berkman stands to make 14.5 M this year (2010) ...
