Billy Muldowney

Rank: #15 Pitcher (TD)

Age: 24

Position(s): SP

'08 Team(s): Peoria, Daytona

Acquired: Drafted in 8th Round (2006)

'08 Key Composite Stats: 18 starts, 6-3 record , 2.85 ERA, 1.02 WHIP

Breakdown: After making 7 starts at Peoria with a 2.61 ERA with a 0.87 WHIP, the righthander was promoted to Daytona. While his domination didn't continue, he was still very solid for the D-Cubs, going 5-3 with an ERA just south of 3. Muldowney's overall 1.02 WHIP ranked 6th in the organization and was based on a solid combination of not allowing hits and not walking a lot (instead of one dominating stat). The only concerns about Muldowney in '08 were his innings pitched (he averaged only 4.74 per start) and his HR's allowed. He gave up 9 HR's in 85.1 innings pitched, or almost 1 per 9 IP. He's already 24, which discounts his impressive season just a bit.

Carlos Zambrano Throws Ump out of the Game

The Chicago Cubs have not gotten off the great start that they may have hoped for. But it is baseball and that means the season will last another eight months. Nonetheless, for a day at least the Cubs appear to have righted a sinking ship. Of course the man who helped to bring the spark was none other than the fiery Carlos Zambrano.Check out how Zambrano's actions get the Chicago...

Roster Moves Aplenty

Posted by Lionel on May 27, 2009.Wow. I decided to check the Cubs website before the start of today's action just to review the standings after last night when I was blindsided by roster moves. Let's take a look at the 6 players affected. Off the 25 Man Aaron Miles-Miles was put on the 15 day D.L., retroactive all the way back to yesterday, with what's being called...

Video: Carlos Zambrano Ejected After Bumping Umpire, Beats Up Gatorade

Carlos Zambrano has a well-deserved reputation as a hot head. The fiery character was in typical form on Wednesday afternoon during the Cubs/Pirates game. With the Cubs leading 2-1 in the Top 7th, Zambrano threw a wild pitch that allowed Nyjer Morgan to score the game-tying run. Zambrano felt that he had covered the plate to prevent Morgan from scoring, but Nyjer was called safe...

Rumor Mill Starting to Churn

Posted by Lionel on May 27, 2009.It seemed like the sleepy baseball writers and reporters were caught off guard last week when the Jake Peavy to the White Sox deal popped up, so now they are all scrambling to start some rumors, even if they are absurd...Obviously, the first rumor out there is that the Cubs will try to go after Jake Peavy. The Daily Herald gave some thoughts on this...

Mr. T Goes Home to Starla at Night

Do you think Mr. T got where he is today because he dressed like Peter Pan?You think anybody wants a roundhouse kick to the face while he’s wearing those bad boys? Forget about it.

Milton Bradley has an excuse for why he sucks so much this year

Milton Bradley has been off to a pretty rough start in his first year with the Chicago Cubs. But he has a reason for why he is only hitting .188 with four home runs and nine RBI. It's not his fault, of course. According to Bradley, the umpires are widening the strike zone when he hits as a way of getting back for him for arguing with an umpire a month ago. "Unfortunately...

Lou Takes Out Anger On Cubs Travel Secretary, Cubs Still Lose

The Cubs have been slumping lately.  It’s not even that one or two players can’t hit, the whole team has just completely shorted out at the plate.  Don’t fear, Cubs fans.  Lou Piniella will use his powers of anger and frustration to fix our hitting woes.  Here’s the plan: While reporters were in the clubhouse interviewing [...]

A Trip Around the Minors

Posted by Lionel on May 22, 2009. I remain confused why the Cubs feel the need to have Clevenger and Castillo split time instead of putting them at two different levels. The Cubs seem to have decent catching prospects throughout their system, but Castillo and Clevenger are the two "prized" prospects. Clevenger is handling it better than Castillo, as we'll see in this...

Milton Bradley Accuses Umps of Bias Against Him

Milton Bradley has a novel explanation for why he has sucked so far in a Cubs uniform: Chicago Cubs right fielder Milton Bradley lashed out at Major League Baseball’s umpires Sunday, saying they are forcing him to swing at bad pitches by widening his strike zone. Bradley, suspended one game last month after an argument with umpire [...]

Umps Out To Get Bradley?

Chicago Cubs outfielder Milton Bradley told reporters Sunday that umpires are forcing him to swing at bad pitches by widening his strike zone. Bradley, suspended for one game for allegedly bumping an umpire last month, said other umps were getting back at him for the incident."Unfortunately, I just think it's a lot of 'Oh, you did this to my colleague,' or 'We...

Cards Sweep Cubs

We’re going to need more brooms. First, the Brewers swept the Cardinals in a three game series with their win on Sunday in St. Louis.  Then the Cards did some sweeping of their own, taking all three games from the visiting Chicago Cubs.  And now, there’s a pile of broken glass somewhere under Big Mac Land [...]

Dontrelle Willis Needed This!

He needed to step onto that mound at Comerica Park and feel the evening sun shine upon him, the clouds in retreat, the swirling winds at bay. He needed to kick his right leg high into the air and bring his left arm across his body in perfect plane as the baseball left his fingertips with a sizzle. He needed this, and so did we. Once upon a time Dontrelle Wayne Willis was an...

Such a Temper!

We just saw this video and felt like we had to share it. Chicago Cubs Pitcher Carlos Zambrano...well, let's just say he blows a gasket after a very close play at the plate versus the Pittsburgh Pirates earlier this afternoon. Not the best video, if you want a cleaner look...follow the link here ((Thanks MLB.com))While this was interesting, and the beatdown of the Gatorade Machine...
