PLAYERS: CC Sabathia
TEAMS: New York Yankees

ShysterBall had a post yesterday about the science of pitch counts, citing an article that suggested that teams should look a little more closely at how their pitchers tire during the game. First was Washington’s Tom Cheney, who in 1962 threw a complete game…in 16 innings. It took 228 pitches to get the job done. That would make CC Sabathia blush. The second example was Nolan Ryan, which was not surprising. Ryan would routinely flirt with ...

Derek Jeter: Is Derek Jeter Gay? (Satire)

I’m interested in asking if Derek Jeter is gay because it’s the type of question people are fascinated with, even if they don’t want to admit it. I don’t think people really care if someone is gay. People are more interested in the, “Ooh look, we caught a celebrity doing something they don’t want us to know about” type of thing. So, is Derek Jeter gay? I saw...

A-Rod’s match made in heaven…

It’s not his smokin’ hot wife Cynthia (after all, he’s stray-rod), it’s not Scott Boras and we sure as hell know it’s not the New York Yankees, it’s dollar signs in his eyes. Alex, all you want this holiday season is some moolah and, now, much to my chagrin it look...

Now starting at shortstop … Alex Rodriguez?

If Derek Jeter is out for an extended period of time with the quad injury he suffered last night, is it possible that Alex Rodriguez would be moved to shortstop until Jeter returns? New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi didn’t rule it out last night. “It’s something we’ll...

Green encouraged by Crystal, plans to try out at fullback

Far be it from 60-year Billy Crystal to initiate any sort of passing Hollywood fad, but a shocking statement made by a fellow show-business employee indicates the short-lived Major League Baseball designated hitter may have influenced many with his recent spring training stint. Sources close to actor Seth Green told SSNN Thursday that the 34 year-old actor was so inspired by Crystal...

Spring Training Recap

The Yankees closed out spring training yesterday with another win over the Phillies.  The win gave them a 22-10-1 record for the spring - the best record of any Grapefruit League team.  Only the Angels of the Cactus League had a better record than the Yanks, as they went 24-7.  However, it's just spring training, and records don't matter.  Let's look at the important...

First Trip to the New Stadium

Walking through the tunnel for the first time in the new stadium

2009 Outlook

The Steinbrenners spent nearly half a billion dollars this past offseason to secure three big-name free agents for the first era of the new Yankee Stadium.  I feel like I say this every year, but there's no doubt in my mind that this is the best team the Yankees have opened up with in at least five years.  For the first time since the late '90s, pitching, not hitting, is...
