Joe Morgan would have put the Cardinals on his bad list in June, because they’ve been pretty inconsistent during the month.  A pitching staff that is lit up against the Rockies early in the month settles down to some better pitched games, with hiccups along the way.  An offense maligned as inept is able to put up four double digit scores in 10 games.  What, exactly, are the Cardinals, besides a first place team as of this writing? Wellemeyer vs. Thompson: Thrive for Five

When Lohse returns, who is the #5 Starter? The two candidates, Brad Thompson and Todd Wellemeyer, have been pretty aware that they are fighting for this rotation spot in their last couple starts. They've both been working with Dave Duncan, and appear to be approaching each start the same way: Warm up, pitch poorly, repeat.

Scanning the Scoreboard

Joel Pineiro pitched an unusual two-hitter. He used his defense as much as he could, striking out one, walking one and hitting one batter. The Mets were just 2 for 26 putting the ball in play as they lose to St. Louis 3-0. Brandon Inge hit his 17th home run of the season, the [...]

Greene emerging from spiral of doubt

He was the antithesis of the caged lion. It was in the batting cage that Khalil Greene looked and acted like someone who'd found his natural habitat, the perfect environment to do something he was born to do. There was just him and the hitting guru, Merv Rettenmund, and maybe a Padres teammate or two.

Albert Pujols: Cash Flow Under-Achiever

Glaus Could Appeal To Teams At First Or DH

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that Troy Glaus could appeal to teams looking for a first baseman or DH. The Cardinals may not have room for Glaus when he returns from his injury, since his hitting is progressing better than his throwing. With Albert Pujols at first and no DH, the Cardinals may decide to trade Glaus if he can't play third. If the Cardinals deal him, they'd likely...

Your Daily Update on Stressed Out Baseball Players

Hey everybody, Khalil Greene is back! With nearly all his marbles! And it's good to know that San Diego still cares about the fella a year since he left the Padres. Chris Jenkins of the Union-Tribune penned a nice love letter to the kid who set the Padre single season record for most homers by a shortstop a couple years back. What, you mean Ricky Gutierrez never hit 35 homers in...
