TEAMS: New York Yankees, Los Angeles Angels
There was a great illustration of what the Yankees have been paying for all of these years in the seventh inning of yesterday's game. The Yankees had bases loaded, no outs, with Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez coming to the plate.Did anybody, anywhere expect the Yankees to score here?I had a text message all ready for Reader Matt P., but didn't want to jinx anything, so I never sent it. But this situation was more perfectly scripted than Saturday night's UFC title "fight."Teixeira struck out. A-Rod hit into a double play. And in the drafts of my text folders sat this unsent message: the (rhymes with bunt) strikes out, a-rod dp.And for an added bonus, A-Rod struck out to end the game, too. In fact, that was such a forgone conclusion that KCOP started airing the postgame show while A-Rod was going through the pretense of pretending to be a Major League player. C.C. Safattia allowing five runs in just over six innings. And legions of Yankees fans once again filed...

A-Rod’s Two Homers Not Enough for Yankees
Alex Rodriguez smashed two home runs for the New York Yankees on Saturday, however those two homers weren’t enough for the Yankees to beat the Los Angeles Angels. In a slugfest, the Angels powered their way to a 14-8 victory.
In the top of the first inning, Alex Rodriguez hit a two-run blast off of Jered [...]Post from: Knuckle Curve
A-Rod's big break
Alex Rodriguez is preparing for his first All-Star break in a decade. A-Rod hasn't missed a Midsummer Classic since 1999, but the 12-time All-Star was not selected this year.
Failing to get clutch hit, Yanks get swept in Anaheim
(Originally posted for Baseball Digest) When the Yankees began their series in Anaheim on Friday, they were tied for first place in the AL East. Now as they head into the All-Star break, they are three games behind the Boston Red Sox after getting swept at the hands of the Los Angeles Angels. The Yankees lost Sunday’s game by the score of 5-4. The Yankees had...
New York Yankees: The good, the bad and the ugly of the first half of the season
THE GOOD 1. Lots to choose from here. But we'll go with the most important: Alex Rodriguez missed the first month of the season, and his was just one of the many injuries the Yankees have had to deal with...
Yankees Decide to Not Pitch, Lose 14-8
For the second game in a row, the Yankees blew a 4-0 lead. Five home runs, including two each from Alex Rodriguez and Eric Hinske, wouldn't be enough, as Andy Pettitte and his relievers gave up 14 runs to lose 14-8 Saturday night at Angel Stadium...

Bats come alive in Angels’ late inning surge over Yankees
Trailing 4-0 early in the ball game after an erratic Joe Saunders allowed five runs in five innings, the Angels knew they would need some of the bats to come alive if they were going to spoil Mark Teixeira’s return to Anaheim.
Luckily, they did find some power in the way of Kendry Morales and Erick [...]

Yanks Swept Out of LA
ON THE MOUND:For three straight days a Yankee starter has pitched well for the first three innings of the game. The rest, is a question. CC Sabathia allowed two hits and a walked 1 over the first three, and in the fourth, allowing four runs on four hits and a walk. A 1-0 Yankee lead turned into a 4-1 deficit. Sabathia would last until the seventh, when he allowed the Angels fifth...
All-Star Tuesday Links
Well it's that time of the year. Players rest. Minds are eased. A meaningless game is televised by Fox as fans listen to McCarver rant.
It's the time of year when Bud Selig tries to convince anyone and everyone that the game means something and that this game is an appropriate means to decide home field advantage in the World Series.
Yes indeed, it's that time.
At...
Errors + Bad Pitching + Missed Opportunities = Yankees Lose to Angels, 10-6
Through the fourth inning on Friday night, everything looked peachy. Yankees had four runs on the board (2 of them scored by Derek Jeter), thanks to an RBI double by Alex Rodriguez and RBI singles by Nick Swisher and Johnny Damon.
Meanwhile, a ...
MLB: Composure is Awesome...When You Have It
Sometimes, as a pitcher, you don't actually pitch all that badly, but your defense plays, well, shoddy baseball.Last night was a rare instance in which both Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter committed errors; although these errors did not directly lead to Anaheim Los Angeles runs, they did continue the innings for Angels' bats and ultimately culminated in two three-run home...
