The Cleveland Indians today signed CA KELLY SHOPPACH for the 2009 season, avoiding arbitration.

The Indians recently signed their current back-up catcher Kelly Shoppach to a one year deal. Shoppach has been with the Tribe since the 2006 season when he was traded from the Boston Red Sox in an off season deal involving outfielder Coco Crisp and third baseman Andy Marte.

Indians 'just say no' to salary arbitration in signing Kelly Shoppach
The Cleveland Indians continued an 18-year streak of avoiding salary
arbitration when they signed back-up catcher Kelly Shoppach to a
one-year, $1.95 million dollar deal today. The streak will endure
because Shoppach was the only player eligible for arbitration this
