Surviving Grady:
I hate going out on a limb and making predictions, especially when Brad Penny, the Steven Seagal of pro baseball, is on the hill against a stocked Yankees line-up. But I look to the return of the RemDawg as the harbinger: the Sox have no choice but to roll. Roll over those high-paid mercenary types; those heartless dinks who feel that entitlement comes with the pinstripes. I'm here to say it doesn't, you backwards-ass f@#ks. Because we've gut spunk. And gusto. And more heart and piss and fire and napalm in Dustin Pedroia's shin guards than you've got in your entire goddam team. Throw Pettitte at us, that meat-loving, steroid-popping doofus. Give us yer A-Rod, yer "Jeets," your Ghost of Thurman Munson. As the great Morgan Freeman said in The Shawshank Redemption, I just don't give a ****.And if the Sox needed any clubhouse bulletin board inspiration, here it is:Here's tonight's theme song, courtesy of Spinal Tap and a shitload of Legos. And, ...

Game 120 - Red SoxRed Sox 8, Blue Jays 1Record: 69-51Sweeps are neat. Brad Penny and Junichi Tazawa facing the Yankees tonight and tomorrow: less neat.Still, beggars can't be choosers. The Sox improved to 7-3 post-Bronx beatdown with yet another convincing win up North. J.D. Drew went 4-for-4 with a pair of homers and Jon Lester dropped yet another dominant performance, going 8 innings for his
Tarnished Penny: Brad Penny Hurts Red Sox and Must Go
At this point, it's reasonable to ask if Brad Penny will, or should, ever make another start for the Red Sox.Against the Yankees on Friday night, Penny lasted just four innings, allowing eight earned runs on 10 hits. In all, the burly righty allowed 11 base runners and recorded just 12 outs in his rather brief outing. With the loss, Penny's record now stands at 7-8, making...
Plugged in
Before yesterday’s game, as Terry Francona discussed his upcoming rotation, he asked for patience. Patience from Brad Penny, and patience from the media, to see what transpired over the next nine innings.
Jon Garland or Brad Penny? Who Would You Rather Have, Red Sox Nation?
After Brad Penny's terrible start against the hated New York Yankees, it's time most of Red Sox Nation ask the question:Should Theo designate Penny for assignment?
There are good starters avalible, including Arizona's Jon Garland. Garland, 29, is 6-11 this season with a 4.42 ERA and a WHIP 1.44. Not spectacular, but not completely terrible. Garland cleared waivers, and...
Tim Wakefield to Replace Brad Penny in Rotation
So, the first pitcher out of the rotation will not be rookie Junichi Tazawa or the untested Clay Buchholz, but rather veteran starter Brad Penny, who will now make way for Tim Wakefield. Wake has recovered from a lower back strain, an injured left hamstring, and an injured left calf, and will start Wednesday night [...]
Yankees Put On An Offensive Clinic, Destroying The Red Sox 20-11
Tonight's 20-11 win over the Red Sox was extremely fun and extremely aggravating to watch. It was a blowout, but it very quickly could have become a close game. The Yankees' pitching staff was horrendous tonight. 12-1 becomes 12-4. 15-4 becomes 15-7. 20-7 becomes 20-11. Now, it was never really a close game. It was always pretty much well in hand. But there were a...
Wakefield set to pitch Wednesday in place of Penny
Tim Wakefield will replace struggling Brad Penny in the Boston Red Sox rotation.
The Cano vs. Pedroia Debate Rages
Well, not really, but thanks to Joel Sherman's article this morning it's been the topic of discussion on several Yankees blogs, so I figured I'd chime him.The article is titled Pedroia's Effort Level Leaves Robbie In Dust. I formed a seven- man committee comprised of one NL GM, one AL GM, and five assistants -- three NL and two AL -- and posed this question: If...
