About now, I should be extolling the virtues of having Philip Humber, Bobby Keppel and Jesse Crain in the bullpen, a group whose collective contributions this month prior to last night’s game was a .314 average against along with 14 extra base hits.  Humber was unhittable last night, but not the good kind.  Keppel continued to be hit hard but miraculously escaped several jams thanks to sloppy baserunning.  Crain was downright brilliant, retiring six straight O’s before Nolan Reinhold nine-ironed a slider for a double in the 8th.    What’s more interesting to me right now is the body count of Twins pitchers that is amassing.  Since the start of the season Boof Bonser, Pat Neshek, Scott Baker, Glen Perkins, Jesse Crain, Kevin Slowey and Francisco Liriano have made visits to the disabled list.  With the exception of Slowey’s wrist, all of the others are associated with the arms.  "Twins starter" is swiftly becoming an occupation as dangerous to your ...

Get Span Up!

Even Span was impressed with the replay on the JumboTron. The season-long search for reliable bullpen performers not named Guerrier, Mijares and Nathan may have finally come to an end.  And it’s always in the last place you look — left field. If you haven’t seen it yet, do yourself a favor and grab a seat to check out Denard Span’s snag from last night&...

Twins Take Second Game of Series Thanks To a Walk-Off Hit by Delmon Young

After the Orioles lost on Monday in the Land of 10,000 Lakes in a tight game, they took an early lead, but gave up another one to the Twins on Tuesday, 7-6. Delmon Young had a walk-off hit in the ninth to seal it for Minnesota off rookie reliever Kam Mickolio – who had been lights out until then. Mickolio got both Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau to ground out to start the final frame...

Twins Harden Up For Starting Pitching

Haha, fantastic pun I know. ESPN Chicago is reporting that the Cubs have placed RHP Rich Harden on waivers and that he has been claimed by an AL team, reported to be the Minnesota Twins. Harden has a 4.38 FI this year, and is projected to have a 3.56 FIP going forward. He has been [...]

Twins on Young's

Delmon Young's fourth hit of the night scored Michael Cuddyer in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Minnesota Twins to a 7-6 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday.

Back on Top: A Tale Of Two Scott Bakers

When diagnosing the many problems of the 2009 Minnesota Twins, a combined team ERA of 4.76 is especially tough to swallow. It's actually quite hard to wrap your head around how bad the majority of the Twins' pitching staff must be, considering they boast three relievers with ERAs under 3.00. But then there's Scott Baker, an enigma in every sense of the word. His 4.47...

Twins Get the 1st Game of the Series From the O's; The Metrodome and Target Field...

Last night, Oriole rookie Chris Tillman learned how difficult life can be in the majors at times. The youngster pitched well and show why the Orioles have been so high on him; however, despite his solid start, the offense could not get anything going, and in the end, Baltimore lost to Minnesota, 2-1, to kick off a three game set. Minnesota used an RBI-single by Denard Span and a...

Find a Penny, pick him up?

Rest of the season he has good luck?  It is a sobering thought realize that a pitcher who is 7-8 with a 5.61 ERA is a sound addition to your rotation, but that is what Brad Penny would be to the Twins.    There are several things to consider when reviewing Penny’s pedigree.  In a lot of ways, Penny is very similar in Boston as Carl Pavano was in Cleveland,...

Back on Top: A Tale of Two Bakers

A division in Scott Baker's season was game No. 10, when he turned from an awful pitcher into a surprisingly effective one. What caused this shift?
