  Ty Cobb is a ridiculously polarizing sports figure. You have people like Joe Jackson, Pete Rose and now McGwire out of the Hall on character issues, then you see the laundry list of offenses by one of the introductory members. Since when is kicking a maid less egregious than taking steroids?

  Ty Cobb invented the 'Artest'. He was once heckled by a fan so he went into the stands and beat his ass and he was praised for doing so. Times sure have changed.

  Some excelent points. As a lifelong Giants fan, and practically lifelong Barry fan it's an every day struggle to put up with the double standard placed on him. Did he "do it"? Probably. Was the the only one? Not even close. I'll never forget an article in USA Today from May in which Tom House (a teammate of Hank Aaron, in fact) describing steriod use in the 60s and 70s. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/2005-05-03-steroids-house_x.htm?csp=34
  
  I'm not saying it was ever right - but it's no secret that it was a problem before Barry ever picked up a bat. What kils me are all the fans (read: virtually every non-Giants fan) who refuse to accept the fact that their own favorite team/player's sh*t probably stinks.too

  The whole thing disgusts me. the person who said double standard is right. The asterisk on the baseball is a disgrace. How about we do a good review and see how many other asterisks are in Cooperstown. I think a lot of people will be shocked.

  It's one thing when a kid grows up dirt poor and has a "I've got to get mine because someone will try to take it" versus a kid who grew up in the lap of luxury and thinks people are out to get him. Someday Barry will get it through his giant sized melon that people hate him because of who he is and how he treats people instead of the fact that he cheated.

  Ok we all know that Barry Bs a good looking guy. What bothers me is that why is it that we discuss the mans, personel back ground of mistresses, isn't the man married with children, and futhermore why
  can't we get over the fact that barrys father, prepared him on that fact that the media, are a bunch of
  guy's who have no fault?! at all this is why they have no life of there own. They need to report to someone on a daily bases about someones life. this crapp about him taking a drug called steriods,
  is very funny, I get this info from one of the greats, who played in the negro league, find a ball player
  with a clean record, and ill count him among the few who struggle to keep it. you think players of the past, who were injured, during there career, wether handy cap or bothered for some time didn't use
  some kind of drug, then you have not been around long in this game. Great Respect. for present and past
  player of this game. P.S. YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT MADE THEM DECIDE TO DO IT. AND THATS LIFE ON THE FIELD. NO ONES PERFECT? GOD FORGIVE US FOR OUR SINS!!!!! Peace>>>>
