Found April 23, 2009 on Cub Reporter: Yardbarker Blogger Network
As had been rumored, the Cubs have gone and designated Luis Vizcaino for assignment and promoted Jeff Samardzija. Vizcaino has 72 hours to clear waivers and then the Cubs have 7 days to trade or release him. Vizcaino is owed $3.5M for 2009, some of which has already been paid by the Cubs, plus he had a $4M option for 2010 with a $500K buyout, which I believe the Cubs are still responsible for. Muskat's article suggests that Jim Hendry was trying to deal Vizcaino - possibly to the Washington Nationals - but he was unable to finalize anything, so they decided to DFA him instead. Which makes me ask, what's the fucking rush? A Trib article that Cubnut linked to in the previous post  that I can't seem to get to work now, suggested Vizcaino got in Lou's doghouse by showing up late on Opening Day, but that's hardly enough to burn $4M. As far as I know, Jeff Samardzija bobblehead day wasn't scheduled yet, so I don't know why he needed to be called up by April 23rd at ...

MLB News, Notes, Stats, and Opinion

The Florida Marlins may have gotten off to a 11-1 start but they do not impress me at all. The media has given them too much credit just because they got off to a good start. They have lost their last two games and are now 11-3.The Marlins got off to a great start mainly because they played the lowly Washington Nationals six times already. They have now come back down to earth and...

Spelling Not Just a Problem for DC Schools

Washington, D.C. schools are a mess and people have been trying desperately to improve them over the years. Even so, even the public school supporting Obama family passed them up in favor of a private school. But apparently the problem goes beyond the schools, to the interior of the Washington Nationals ballpark. A ballpark that is ironically located near one of the traditionally...

My Interview With The Nats Blog

I recently answered some questions for The Nats Blog in anticipation of the upcoming weekend series with the Washington Nationals. The Mets are off to a 6-8 start, are you disappointed with how things are going right now? Definitely. Although I wouldn’t say I’m surprised by their early performance, it’s still disappointing to experience. The sad part [...]

MLB.com's Gameday Audio provides me with the second chance this "Spring" to hear for myself how the Washington Nationals are progressing with less than a month left before the March 30th Opening Night at Nationals Park in DC. Today it's the Washington Nationals and St. Louis Cardinals in an afternoo...

How Stupid are the Washington Nationals?

Their 3-11, fired their bull pen, misspelled their own name on their jerseys and now they've fined Elijah Dukes for hanging out with kids....

The Rivalry That Does Not Exist: O's vs. Nationals Play Kick Off the Annual Battle of the Beltway: The Bird & Screech Face Off...

Well, the non-existent rivalry between the Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles kicks off tonight at the Yard. What can we say -- right now, no one cares that the team formerly known as the Expos are playing the recently-down-on-their luck Orioles. The reason is simple -- aside from the few people 40 and over who were around to see the Senators and the Orioles face off ...

The Nationals and the Nats Farm Report (4/23/09)

If it isn't one, it is the other.  Seem like the first ten games of the year, Nats had no problem generating offense, but struggled at quality pitching, both starters and bullpen.  Quite the opposite of most of the start of the season.
