The long list of baseball code words added another entry last night when Brewers catcher Jason Kendall repeatedly, wantonly and vindictively began referring to Pirates pitching coach Joe Kerrigan as "Dave Kerwin," or possibly "Dave Kurwin" or "Dave Kirwan." I mean, of all the no-good rotten things to call a baseball lifer in the heat of battle. Who needs "mutha$&%^ing ^#*$#&*" when you can just make up a fake name that sounds like that of a high school biology teacher from Topeka? Anyhow, in this particular game, there was a melee, and Kerrigan was one of the restrainers while Kendall was one of the restrainees, and words were exchanged, and the next thing you know, Kendall was speaking in tongues. "It was fine until Dave Kerwin," Kendall said, referring to Kerrigan. Kendall continued to call Kerrigan by that incorrect name -- seemingly on purpose -- even after being promptly corrected. "I can take a lot, but I&#...

The Drill: The sultans of squat

Brewers catcher Jason Kendall (above) has 280 at-bats this season and is still seeking his first homer of 2009. That's nowhere near the major-league record for most at-bats in a season without a homer.

Pitchers As Targets

No pitcher was safe during last night’s Pirates/Brewers contest at PNC Park as the baseball game developed into some carnival like contest of whack-a-hurler. First, it was Brewers starter Mike Burns’ turn, taking a solid line drive to the chest off the bat of Ryan Doumit in the bottom of the second inning. Someone should tell Jim Lefebvre that’s really what a pitcher...

Fielder Day

Prince Fielder drives in both Brewers runs with two out singles as Milwaukee gets back to beating Pittsburgh, this time by a 2-0 score. Fielder’s RBI total goes to 86 in 94 games played. A few more multi-RBI games and he may drive in as many runs as games played. The Brewers [...]

Brewers Have a Long Memory

Pat Lackey thinks the Brewers are a little too sensitive on the field: Actually, I’m pretty sure it’s not over because the Brewers take ridiculous offense to just about everything. Last year, Prince Fielder tried to pick a fight with Matt Capps over a similar incident and earlier this year, Braun took offense to a pitch [...]

Milwaukee Brewers hitting coach Dale Sveum has been suspended three games and fined an undisclosed sum for yelling at umpires after a game in Cinncinnati.

Brewers Lose 5-3, Split Series With Reds

The Milwaukee Brewers had chances to take the series with the Cincinnati Reds, but the bullpen failed in a 5-3 loss in Cincinnati. This means the Brewers split the series and could have won three out of four games.  When you have opportunities to win games you must seize them or down the line it [...]

Quick Random Thought on the Milwaukee Brewers

Call me crazy or call me in a bad mood, but the Milwaukee Brewers are not contenders this year.  I’m not talking about being a contender for the World Series or even the National League pennant.  No, I am talking about being in the race to even come close to winning the National League Central. You might be asking why, so let me tell you. The Brewers have the worst...

Young, Jones homer as Pirates end 17-game skid against Milwaukee Brewers with 8-5 win

Pirates-Brewers set to get underway

The Pirates game against the Milwaukee Brewers is scheduled to begin at 9:15 p.m. The game has been delayed since 7:05 p.m. due to rain.

Brewers Can’t Figure Out Pirates In 8-5 Loss

Well you knew it would happen eventually when you beat a team 17 straight times they would eventually win. Last night the Pittsburgh Pirates finally did and came away with a 8-5 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. It was a win that all Brewer fans knew would come so getting it out of the way [...]

The Drill: No Halladay plans for Brewers

Here are four reasons the Milwaukee Brewers won't make a move for Toronto Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay:

Feud continues to simmer

The incident between the Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates that emptied both benches and bullpens Monday night didn't die after a good night's sleep. In fact, it grew new legs.
