Washington Nationals Season Preview - Analysis, rosters, and outlook... Hope springs eternal for every team before the first game of each and every team before a season, and some teams know they are contenders and some do not. Sadly, for the Washington Nationals, most experts and pundits believe they will not be contenders at all in the National League and perhaps will lose 100 games or more. However, even though the Nationals are rebuilding their organization for the future, the team has potential All-Stars like Ryan Zimmerman & Chad Cordero emerging as the cornerstone of the franchise. With the exception of a few players, 2007 will be a year for many to show they belong on a major league club.

  • When the only "sure bet" in the rotation is John Patterson, you're in trouble. The odds of him making it through the season healthy aren't very good. Poor Nationals fans.

What about Odalis Perez?

With roughly two weeks left until the regular season begins, pretty much all of the impact free agents are now off the board. Even though the offseason moved slower than molasses, players eventually found homes, even if they were for reduced rates. One of the lone remaining impact player who remains unsigned is left handed starting pitcher Odalis Perez. Strangely enough, Perez did...

When the Audacity of Hope Fades

2007 will go down as the year that the Lerner/Kasten Regime began its top-to-bottom review of what the organization has today and what it needs to be successful next year and beyond. With 40 games under its belt, we now know the Washington Nationals to be a .350 team, despite their admirable .500 pe...

Elijah Dukes Coming To My Bakyard: He'll be a National, It Looks Like...

According to the Nationals Journal on WashingtonPost.com: "Dave Sheinin just confirmed what I've been trying to for the last couple hours -- that troubled Tampa Bay outfielder Elijah Dukes has been dealt to the Washington Nationals. We do not yet know who was dealt in return. More in a minute." Oh yea. I'll give Jim Bowden credit, he's got balls.

What we don't know won't hurt us. Right?

Washington Nationals fans and residents of DC are torn these days. Many of us have doubts about the success of the Iraq war and doubts about the White House's foreign policy. This United Arab Emirates deal has shaken this city a lot and has turned a lot of supporters against the Bush administration, ...

2009 Mariners: Hey, You Never Know!

By Gary Armida The Seattle Mariners were so bad last season that they were actually in competition with the Washington Nationals for the worst record in baseball. The Mariners won just one game more than the Nats as they finished with a record of 61 wins and 101 losses. Many predicted big things for the 2008 [...]

Even Kerry Wood & Eric Gagne Think Tom Gordon Had A Lousy Opening Day

Courtesy of a 5 run, 4 hit, 1 walk, 0.1 IP performance by stand-in Phillies closer Tom Gordon, the Washington Nationals find themselves on pace to go 162-0, while Philadelphia is on pace…to force Brad Lidge to pitch ASAP, regardless of his physical condition. Lastings Milledge (above) hit his ...

While I am here watching the Yankees get thumped by the Indians, I often check out the other blogs out there in the universe, and one of the best out there is the Nats320 Blog done by a Washington Nationals season ticket holder who has unbridled passion for the team and attends virtually every game. This week, he added an impassioned entry to his blog about the ticket availability...

Whither Ryan Zimmerman?

Yes, we know, that it's only May, but it's time to start thinking about a sophomore slump for Ryan Zimmerman. His line has dropped 50 points. Last year, his line was .287/.351/.471. This year it has dropped to .250/.305/.417. Especially troubling is the 50 point drop in OBP; it suggests that rather than learning to be more patient, Zimmerman is taking the bait of pitchers...

Washington set to march against NL

While some Washington Nationals fans despair at our position in the NL East, I am here to offer some cheer for the All-Star break. Our last 8 games have yielded 4 victories, and we have another series against the Florida Marlins starting next week. Although we are a little too used to standing at the...

Ryan Zimmerman said in an interview a few nights ago that he was ready to lead the Nationals and take them to the next level. With the Mets, Braves and Phillies standing in the way, the likelihood of that seems slim.On the field though, Zimmerman has lead his team to a 3-0 start and smacked his second...
