Bugs & Cranks:
In what may have been the final game of Hideki Matsui’s New York Yankees career, Matsui delivered a two-run homer, two-run single and two-run double to help the Bombers claim a 27th World Series championship.
Matsui hadn’t played in the Fall Classic since his first major league season of 2003, just missing out on a run of four titles that had been orchestrated and enjoyed by the likes of Derk Jeter, Jorge Posada, Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera.
It has often been said that Don Mattingly was the only great Yankee to never win a championship. Though Matsui has never been in Donnie Baseball’s strata, he has been an invaluable part of the Yankees machine since arriving in the Bronx.
Matsui owns a .292 career...
