A while back the geniuses at Baseball Prospectus figured out that the three keys to postseason success are having three or four strikeout starters, a strong back end of the bullpen, and a good defense (buy their book Baseball Between the Numbers if you haven't!). The Angels will counter with John Lackey, Joe Saunders, Jered Weaver, and Scott Kazmir.I'm betting on rain right now which means I'm including Gaudin in this comparison.Sabathia/Lackey- In games one and five we should see some intense pitcher's duels. Both guys are bonafide ace...

This would put the schedule at:Saturday the 17th: Sabathia vs LackeySunday the 18th: Burnett vs SaundersMonday the 19th: Pettitte vs WeaverTuesday...

I know Greg or Mike might want to do something like this in the coming days, and I know Game 1 isn't until Friday, but I'd like to preview the AL Championship Series between the Yanks and the Angels. The Yankees, as you know, are coming off a great ALDS against the Twins, as they swept Minnesota in 3 games to advance to the Championship Series for the first time since 2004...

Yanks may go with 3-man rotation vs. Angels

The Yankees may go with a three-man rotation against the Los Angeles Angels in the AL championship series. Manager Joe Girardi says the shortened rotation would allow him to keep Joba Chamberlain and Chad Gaudin in the bullpen. Such a plan would have CC Sabathia starting Game 4 on three days' rest. Sabathia is used to short rest from his time with the Milwaukee Brewers...

If the Yankees don’t win it this year when will they?

If you look at this Yankees’ team, they will almost be the same team next year with the exception of Johnny Damon, Hideki Matsui or Andy Pettitte and you can even say they might be worse without those three. Who would they get? Jason Bay? Holliday? Who’s available in the pitching free agent market? They’ll have [...]
