NEWS AND NOTES

Pedro Martinez thinks he's feared..

How A-rod was saved by a dinner.

Earlier today the Yankees announced that they would be adding Brian Bruney to the WS roster and dropping third catcher Francisco Cervelli.

At 103-59 the Yankees had the best record in all of baseball. And at 57-24 they had the best home record in the majors.

At 93-69 the Phillies had the second best record in the National League behind the Dodgers. They also went 48-33 on the road, tying them with the Angels for the best road record in baseball.

The Phillies took two of the three meetings with the Yankees this season in Bronx.

In three starts against the Phillies in his career CC Sabathia is 1-1, with a 4.35 ERA. He faced them back on 5/24 this year and in 8 innings he allowed 3 earned runs on 9 hits, did not walk a batter and struck out 4 in a no decision. He got pounded by the Phils last year in the NLDS as a member of the Brewers, allowing 5 earned runs on 6 hits in just 3.2 innings.

Cliff Lee has faced the Yankees nine times in his career and is 4-4, with a 5.02 ERA in those meetings. His numbers are similar in the Bronx, where he's 3-2, with a 4.94 ERA in five starts. He faced the Yankees twice this season, both times as a member of the Indians, and went 1-1, with a 3.00 ERA. In 12 innings pitched he allowed 4 earned on 16 hits, walked 5 and struck out 9.

Congrats to WCBS 880's Suzyn Waldman will becomes the first woman radio announcer to call a World Series game tonight.

First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden will throw out tonight's ceremonial first pitch.

George Steinbrenner will be in the house for tonight's World Series opener.
