Chad Jennings is reporting that the Yankees have called up outfielder Freddy Guzman. Anthony Claggett was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster. Jennings said this move caught every player in the SWB clubhous offguard. I assume he's being called up mainly to be a pinch-runner down the stretch, and then maybe get some starts after they clinch. Here's some more on Guzman from Jennings:As for Guzman, he has Brett Gardner-type speed. and he's quite obviously going to the big leagues to provide speed off the bench. Guzman came to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre less than two weeks ago, playing his first game on September 1. While I wasn't remotely expecting the Guzman move, you may remember that the Boston Red Sox made a similar move, adding speedy Joey Gathright to the Triple-A Pawtucket roster on August 30 only to call him up to Boston on September 1. Speed can be huge, and Guzman isn't likely to fill a 40-man spot beyond these final few weeks of the seas...

Yankees.com: Yanks beat Halos at their own speed game
NEW YORK—The Yankees took a play out of the Angels’ speedy playbook on Monday, as Brett Gardner took third base on an eighth-inning double-steal and came home on a throwing error to help secure a 5-3 victory at Yankee Stadium.
Gardner entered the game as a pinch-runner for Mark Teixeira after Tex’s third hit of the game, a ground-rule double, and a walk to Alex Rodriguez...

A-Rod Rips Ump
From Mark Feinsand:"It was a ball. I knew it was a ball and when I went inside and confirmed it, obviously, I got more upset. It was a big game for us. We felt like we wanted to get back in a winning form. A 2-2 pitch, bases loaded, it was not a good pitch and he took the bat out of my hands."Rodriguez said he did not argue balls and strikes from the dugout in the fifth...
A-Rod Calls Marty Foster 'Unprofessional'
It seems that there's some kind of feud developing between the New York Yankees and umpire Marty Foster. You may remember back on July 6th when Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter was stunned by a comment Foster made to him. Jeter was called out trying to steal third even though he beat the tag. When he informed Foster of this the umpire replied "He didn't have to tag you. The ball beat you."...

Look For Less J.J. This Month
Since Joba Chamberlain entered the Major Leagues in 2007 as a midseason call-up, the Yankees took a cautious approach by ensuring that he did not pitch back-to-back days in relief.
This became known as the Joba Rule.
Two years later, the Yankees continue to protect their asset by setting a limit of innings that he can pitch in a season.
Chamberlain recently took several starts...
