Lately they are getting what they need in the form of a stronger more balanced bullpen. Their new advantage became apparent this weekend when the bomber pen threw 11 innings while striking out 14 and giving up only a single run.
On August 7th Joba Chamberlain was brought up and the bullpen received a facelift. With Joba's heat, Edwar Ramirez's change-up, and Luis Vizcaino's slider playing a larger roll, the pen is more versatile. Instead of relying on Farnsworth he is now just a supporting cast member helping the team out when he can.
'Now we have different things we can bring in, sliders, changeups,' Torre said in the Post. 'So I think it helps to not give the same look all the time.'

Joba the Hutt
The Yankees promoted 21-year old prized prospect Joba Chamberlain today, so let me educate you on who this masked man is....although, he's not wearing a mask. Imagine if he was wearing a mask though, that would be a large mask. You'd almost have to buy a large, wide belt and cut holes in it to get it around his melon. Whatever.
Boston Scurred
On May 29th the Yankees (21-29) sat in last place in the AL East, 14.5 games behind the Red Sox (36-15). 67 Games later and a comeback reminiscent of 1978 the Yankees now sit 4 games out of first and tied for 4th best record in league! For those who don't want to do the math, the Yankees have played .670 (45-22) ball over that span, while the Red Sox have played just TWO...

Her words, not ours.

Now, since BC doesn?t need trouble we won?t make any judgments as to what this was the morning

Joba Returns; Girardi on Kennedy

Joba Gets His Swagger Back
Joba Chamberlain has struggled a bit this preseason.
In his first start he pitched just one inning here are the results: ground out, single, double, double, ground out, ground out.
His second start against Team Canada was a little uglier: walk, single, walk, walk, walk. No outs.
Even though it’s just spring training and very early in spring [...]
Is Mo healthy? Struggles make you wonder
"The Yankees have, of course, completely restructured the bridge to Rivera with youngsters. Joba Chamberlain has been lights out since coming up from Scranton. Newly-recalled Sean Henn and Edwar Ramirez combined for four shutout innings yesterday, showing that they can contribute. Luis Vizcaino has been solid for the past two months.
None of that is going to matter, though...
Paging Scranton! Send relief help! Lots of it!
Fire up the Scranton shuttle! After last night's debacle in Chicago, which included Joba Chamberlain's first career defeat (yes, apparently it is possible), the Yankee bullpen is a mess.
Brian Bruney is hurt after falling a couple of nights ago and is headed to the disabled list. Tyler Kepner of the...
The Yankees intended misuse of Chamberlain in 2009
There is no doubting that Joba Chamberlain possesses the makeup of a front line starter in the majors. He has the command of four devastating pitches and the attitude that you want from someone at the top of the rotation. But being a starter is not in his best interest nor the Yankees.
The [...]
Oh, Big Fella!
No, not CC. Seriously, who gets worked up about spring training starts?Well, maybe they should, like if they've had 3 bad ones in a row like Joba Chamberlain?Wait, you say, he just had a good one. No, a great one!Did he? Bob Klapisch doesn't think so at watching it. His velocity was down and they only missed one of his fastballs. I think the...

Give It Up for Mr. Giese
une 3rd, 2008 will resonate with Yankees fans mostly because that was the day of Joba Chamberlain's first career start in pinstripes. While that does outweigh any other occurrence in the state of New York, something else happened in that very same game that deserves to be recognized. Dan Giese, a former 34th round draft pick by the Boston Red Sox, relieved Joba and did a very...
Gardner & Chamberlain: Too Early To Decide
Joba Chamberlain's first and second start this Spring caused a lot of worry. His velocity was down and he was hit hard. With the strong outing he had last night, he put a lot of those fears to rest. His pitches topped out at 98 MPH. He threw 29 pitches (20 for strikes), striking out three and ...
The Latest Injury Status On Mariano, A-rod and Ramirez

One Bad (Spring) Start Must Mean It's Time To Panic
.. And panic about something completely unrelated to yesterday's start. From John Harper (hat-tips to Scott Proctor's Arm and Rob Neyer): CC Sabathia didn't forget how to pitch, let's get that out of the way first. Getting smacked around in early March is practically a rite of spring for veteran pitchers, and hardly cause for concern. Still, Wednesday was a reminder...
Casting Major League 4 With MLB Players
We're in the middle of spring training and the WBC is just not filling
the void for me. So while we wait, let's cast MLB players in roles for
the hypothetical movie, Major League 4. Yeah I know, the regular season
can't come soon enough.
