If you haven't heard by now, 'Tek and his wife, Karen, recently split-up after 12 years of marriage. We're hearing the news now, but Varitek filed for divorce about 3 weeks ago.

What goes better than chips and salsa during a mid august pennant race? Apparently the marketing gurus behind the Dustin Pedroia Salsa think the answer is "NOTHING!" So they have released Pedroia's Premium Salsa. While this is a fantastic marketing ploy that will probably net Dustin little more than a night out on the town it doesn't quite break into our top 10...

One of the greatest players in Red Sox history, Carl Yastrzemski, was admitted to the hospital today with chest pains. His spokesperson, Dick Gordon, had this to say when asked if the situation was serious: "Any time you are in the hospital, it's got to be pretty serious."

I've got a bit of (tongue-in-cheek) bad news for Red Sox fans. Julio Lugo swung a bat (and probably missed) for the first time yesterday since straining his left quadriceps on July 11th. MLB.com gives an estimated return date for Lugo as September 1st. That is the same day that rosters expand, so nobody will have to leave the club for Lugo to rejoin it.
All of that is fine...

Carl Yastrzemski is in the hospital with chest pains.? Here's hoping he'll be ok.
Yaz was my favorite player as a kid (followed very closely by Jim Rice and Dwight Evans).? I'd really like to keep him around for a while longer.

BOSTON.com reports—Baseball Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski was hospitalized for tests Tuesday after experiencing chest pains.
The Boston Red Sox confirmed he was admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital and was undergoing evaluation and testing. The team said no further information was immediately available.

One umpire considers 3 balls the new walk. In last night's Boston Red Sox-Baltimore Orioles game, Coco Crisp took a 2-2 pitch for a ball, tossed the bat and jogged to first. Even Crisp thought something was wrong, but when you are struggling at the plate like he is; you take what you can get.
