Carlos Zambrano has been tricked into thinking he’s had such an awful season that he will retire at the end of 2010 he is not better than 2009. Someone should tell him that he’s had his best season since 2005 and that he needs to stop listening to the dumbass fans. “Look, this is the only season I haven’t won 16 or 18 or 14 games,” he said. “If it happens again next season, two seasons in a row, I’ll quit. Believe me, I’ll quit. I just have to put this behind me. Zambrano announced earlier this season that he would retire in 5 years and shortly after he won his 100th game he pushed it back to 5-7 years. Who knows what Zambrano will do? I’d just like to think he’s more intelligent than the average Cubs fan who shows up to boo him and give him **** because he’s richer than they are. I’d like to think that after the season ends he’ll take a look at what he did in 2009 and realize he had his best season since 2005. Zambrano’s 3.58 FIP is the best it’s been since 2004. His xFIP is the best it’s been since 2005 and his ERA is the best since 2005 as well. I’m probably being silly. It’s unlikely Zambrano is significantly more intelligent than the fan base that wants to trade him for a bag of balls. This is just pathetic. Zambrano has had a really good season and Cubs fans have convinced him otherwise.

Carlos Zambrano: “I’m Taking My Ball And Going Home!”

Oh Big Z, your theatrics are always entertaining (and sometimes frustrating).  Frustrated with his 2009 season, Zambrano lashed out at himself with a lovely hissy fit: “Look, this is the only season I haven’t won 16 or 18 or 14 games,” he said. “If it happens again next season, two seasons in a row, I’ll quit. Carlos Zambrano Talks Retirement … Again

Carlos Zambrano, June 5, 2009: “Because I don’t want to play,” he said. “I want to help this team. I want to do everything possible to win with this team. And after five years, four years, or whatever is left on my contract. … “You know how many Mother’s Days I haven’t spent with my mother? Twelve. [...]

Game Recap: Cubs 3, Giants 0 -- Who was that guy pitching for the Cubs?

(graphic pending) Does anyone know where to look for the stat that records “Most Baseball Games Won Singlehandedly?” I’ve got to imagine Carlos Zambrano is at the top of that leader board. He was at it again last night, knocking in two runs and giving up only one over the course of a complete game two-hitter. ‘Los walked one, and struck out eight. That’s kind of been...

White Sox-Cubs Trade Rumor: Jake Peavy for Carlos Zambrano…Really?

Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune reported today that some baseball insiders think the White Sox could be interested in trading Jake Peavy to the Cubs for Carlos Zambrano.

White Sox-Cubs Trade Rumor: Jake Peavy for Carlos Zambrano...Really?

I sure hope that this is one of those cases of where there may be smoke, but no actual fire. In Phil Rogers’ quick-hits column at the Tribune today (via FanNation T&R), he says that “some baseball people” believe that the White Sox and Cubs could be interested in swapping Jake Peavy and Carlos Zambrano. Before I show you the excerpt, let me give you my unequivocal...

Peavy For Zambrano?

While its purely speculation at this point, there has been some buzz recently regarding a Second City swap of Jake Peavy and Carlos Zambrano.  Peavy, as you may remember, listed the Cubs as a team he was willing to be traded to when the Padres first looked to move him.  Zambrano has solid numbers for the year, posting an ERA of 3.69 and 8 strikeouts per 9 innings.  With just two...

What Should the Cubs Do With Sweet Lou After 2010?

Let me preface this entire article by saying that I have always been a fan of Lou Piniella, and when the Chicago Cubs hired him as their manager in 2006, I was extremely excited. That being said the most recent collapse and downfall of the goat franchise of Major League Baseball begs the question: is it time to let Lou go and move on?   With the exception of the 2009 season...

Cubs 101 - Pt. 70 - 0 and 6: a Tale of Two Post Seasons

The Playoff Cubs -- it could've been the team's nickname after Chicago made consecutive post season trips for the first time in 100 years.  But while one of the two occurred with no expectations, the other was one of the bitterest disappointments since the Bartman Incident half a decade before.  And both exampled the problems that the Cubs will continue to deal...

Nothing short of an inspiration

Milton Bradley got the most attention. Randy Wells opened the most eyes. Carlos Zambrano confounded and at times entertained the most. And Derrek Lee produced the most on the field every day.
