Take a look at this list! Just look at it!See what I see? Probably not, so I'll tell you, I see a massivecliff. A cliff Wile E. Coyote would even be scared of. Getting the obvious outof the way, Troy Tulowitzki is the Creme de-la Creme, the Sophia Vergaraamongst Melissa McCarthys (as unattractive as I may find her, she’s stillhilarious and a great actress). In my onion, he’s the easy #1 pick. Yeah thereare plenty of good arguments for Bautista, Pujols, and now Cabrera, but Tulo ismy boy. With all the uncertainty surrounding shortstop, having an elite guylike Tulo there is such a step above anyone else. Example: take Tulo at #1. The#2 pick is Pujols. Snake draft comes back around he wants a SS so he grabsReyes. Likewise, you want a 1B, so you grab Teixeira. Here’s what 2012projections tell you:

Albert Pujols

While the auction value doesn’t show such a huge gab, $3, it’sclear you’ll lose a lot more with Pujols/Reyes. You lose 15+ homeruns and50+RBIs. *you fix your pocket-protector and adjust your thick glasses* “ButJeremy, Reyes and Pujols clearly win in stolen bases and average, which wouldmean they win the same amount of categories.” Look nerdy guy I just made up inmy head while listening to The Bengals Walk Like An Egyptian (true story), asI’ve said before, and I’ll say again, power is in short supply, so you have togobble that up ASAP…NOW!...gogogogogo! Stolen bases and average can be easilypicked up later in the draft; Bourjoes, Jeter, Andrus, Bourn, etc. Do not wastea 1st or 2nd round pick on speed. Take that to the bank!*nerdy guy opens mouth but does not say anything* That’s right! Boo-ya!

So if you’re unable to get Tulo what do you do? Me? I targetCastro and Andrus. They are going late enough in drafts that they still holdsolid value. Cabrera and Rollins I’m not wasting a pick on. Hardy and Peralta Ihold in the same regard and like them a lot. I’d actually be ok with waitinguntil the 10th-12th round and picking one of them as mystarting shortstop. After that it’s a toss up of you’ll have a solid season. Isee Jeter repeating his 2011 numbers. Same goes for Aybar. As for YunelEscobar, I think he clobbers a few more homeruns and gets to 16. Desmond is thewild card, and I think a great late round flyer. He’s a guy that can have a15HR/30SB season.
