Found July 30, 2012 on The Baseball Page:
The Debut is not just being anticipated by the Pirates, but also Wandy himself.  Wandy will be going up against the team he has been pitching for since he broke into the Major Leagues 8 seasons ago.  As he stared into the Houston Dugout during the first couple of games in the series, you have to wonder just what was he thinking? On Thursday it was Starling Marte, tonight it is Wandy Rodriguez.   Wandy is a solid major league pitcher, that possesses a great curve ball.  A curve ball this Houston crowd has depended on for 8 years to help their team win.   Now, the fans have to get used to rooting against him and his curve ball.  I am positive that he will be well received by the crowd tonight, but I just wonder how HIS emotions will hold up. GM Neal Huntington did not want him to have to face his old team right off the go, but he new eventually he was going to have to face them.  Neal was trying to work with his turn in his old lineup along with not disturbing the c...

First Pitch: Remember When Marte Was the Answer?

Remember a few weeks ago when Starling Marte was the answer for the Pirates? People were calling for him to be promoted to the majors to help the offense for the remainder of the year. Now after four games there are suggestions that the Pirates should trade their top hitting prospect. The rumors came out that the Pirates inquired on Shin-Soo Choo, and that Starling Marte would have...

Pirates' Rodriguez struggles with control while facing his ex-team

In the grand scheme of things, Wandy Rodriguez's next start for the Pittsburgh Pirates will be more important than his first outing with his new club. The veteran left-hander is scheduled to start Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at Cincinnati. The Pirates trail the Reds by three games in the National League Central. However, Rodriguez figures to have fewer...

Pirates' International Pool Growing

Starling Marte crushed the first pitch he saw in a major league uniform, sending the ball off the train tracks in left-center field at Minute Maid Park for his first career home run.  As a Pirates fan, the drama of seeing your top hitting prospect contributing to a winning team on the first pitch of his career was magical. And yet, for the organization, Marte's home run symbolized...

2012 Fantasy Baseball, Week 17 Rookie Report: Starling Marte shines in debut

Starling Marte (credits below) The Pirates call up Marte and a rookie pitcher in Minnesota is the ace of the staff. OF-STARLING MARTE (PITTSBURGH)- The Pirates called up their much heralded rookie outfielder last Thursday and he made quite a first impression as he hit a home run in his first major league at bat. Marte on the year is hitting .318 with a home run and four RBI'...

Biertempfel: Pirates Unwilling to Part with Top Prospects

Rob Biertempfel reports: The Pirates are reluctant to part with rookie outfielder Starling Marte or top right-handed pitching prospects Jameson Taillon and Gerrit Cole, which takes them out of the running for outfielder such as Hunter Pence, Shane Victorino and Shin-Soo Choo. I think the Pirates are definitely being smart in not giving up any of these three guys for the people mentioned...

Saturday Trade Rumors: Victorino, Headley, Marte, Padres, West Virginia

A few days remaining until the trade deadline. Here are the rumors from Saturday. **Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com reports that the trade buzz surrounding Shane Victorino has picked up. Salisbury names the Pirates, Reds, Dodgers, and Giants as teams who are interested and who are currently scouting Victorino. **Jayson Stark of ESPN.com notes that the Pirates are portraying themselves...

Wandy's first start

I can't really imagine how weird it must be for Wandy Rodriguez to be making his Pirate debut in Minute Maid Park against his old team; he hasn't even left Houston since Tuesday's trade because the Astros were at home and the Pirates were on their way there. Really, so far this week, the only thing that's changed for him is that he's sitting in a different dugout...

GAMEDAY: The Wandy era begins — Pirates at Astros

Pirates (57-42) at Astros (34-67) 7:05 PM EST–Minute Maid Park, Houston Here is the MLB.com Gameday TV: ROOT Sports The Pirates will attempt to clinch this weekend’s series against the Astros tonight as they send their newest acquisition to the mound. Tonight’s starters… Wandy Rodriguez (7-9, 3.79) vs. Armando Galarraga (0-0, 0.00) Rodriguez will take the mound as a Pirate...

Bucs edge Astros yet again

The Pirates found another way to win (or the Astros found another way to lose, depending on how you want to look at it) as they defeated Houston for the third straight night to improve to sixteen games over .500. SIXTEEN! Wandy Rodriguez‘s Pirates debut was “meh.” He was uncharacteristically wild (five walks despite averaging just 2.2 per nine innings) but pitched out of trouble...

Pirates comeback again to win Wandy’s Debut

Final: Pirates 4, Astros 3 WP: Chris Resop (1-3, 3.10 ERA) LP: Chuckie Fick (0-1, 6.75 ERA) SV: Jason Grilli (2, 1.86 ERA) Wandy Rodriguez was all over the place in his Pirates debut, but was able to labor through six innings to get a “quality start.” I have to imagine that I would feel a little weird and a bit nervous making my debut with a new team against the club I was a...

MLB's Arms Race Heating Up as Trade Deadline Draws Near

It's that time of year in Major League Baseball. As next Tuesday's trade deadline draws near, talk is heating up across baseball about which players are going to be dealt. As usual, the number one commodity is starting pitching, as every contender is looking for an extra arm to fill out its playoff rotation. The fates of some players have already been decided. The Astros...

Good First Impressions

Two highly touted prospects made their major league debuts this week, and both made excellent first impressions. Pitcher Matt Harvey struck out eleven Diamondbacks in 5-1/3 innings in the Mets 3-1 victory, and in doing so set a new team record for strikeouts by a starting pitcher in his first MLB start (the previous record of eight was shared by Hall of Famer Tom...

Pirates Showing Interest in Shin-Soo Choo

#pirates have shown interested in Shin-Soo Choo, as @BiertempfelTrib reported. theyd have to give up marte to do it — Jon Heyman (@JonHeymanCBS) July 29, 2012   This is an interesting rumor. Adding a bat like Shin-Soo Choo would be amazing. Currently, Choo is hitting .291/.378/.484 with 12 home runs. Choo also still has one year left of team control as he does not become a free...

Fantasy Baseball Week 17 (7/30-8/5)

The trade deadline has forced the Milwaukee Brewers to send Zack Greinke to the Los Angeles Angels, the Pittsburgh Pirates to trade for Wandy Rodriguez, the Miami Marlins to send Hanley Ramirez to Hollywood and the Twins to deal Francisco Liriano to the Chicago White Sox.  Will the Phillies give up on this season and part ways with Shane Victorino or Hunter Pence...
