Justin Verlander is the first pitcher to win the MVP award since Denis Eckersley in 1992. Verlander received 13 of the 28 first place votes and a total of 280 points, enough to beat out Jacoby Ellsbury of the Red Sox (242)and Jose Bautista of the Blue Jays (231).
