Tim Hudson was sharp for his 2nd straight outing on Thursday night, but it wasn’t enough as the Dodgers shut out the Braves, 5-0. Hudson ended the night throwing 7 innings, 4H, 1ER, and 5K. After an Andre Eithier double in the 2nd, Hudson sat down 15 straight Dodger hitters.  Although Hudson had a solid outing, the Braves bats did not give him any support. After a Van Slyke single, and Andre Eithier double, Skip Schumaker got the scoring started by getting the ball to the right side of the field.  That got the Dodgers the only run they really needed. Zach Grienke, who has not been sharp since returning from the DL, shut down the Braves.  Grienke only allowed 4 hits, and struck out 8 in his 7 innings out on the mound. The Braves did have a couple of scoring chances that they could not capitalize on.  In the 7th inning the Braves had their best chance of the night.  Freddie Freeman and Brian McCann both singled (Freeman moved to 3rd on McCann’s single) to start off the inning.  After an Uggla strikeout, Freeman could have tagged up and scored on a Ramiro Pena fly ball.  For some reason, Freeman hesitated and was not able to tag up on the play.  B.J. Upton then flied out to right to end the Atlanta threat. The Braves had another leadoff runner on in the 8th when Jordan Shafer, pinch-hitting for Hudson, singled up the middle. Another base running blunder cost the Braves as Schafer was faked out by the Dodgers middle infielders on a fly ball to center.  Shafer did not touch 2nd on his way back to 1st, and was called out. Yasiel Puig, the Dodger sensation, showed Braves fans why he has been talked about so much this week.  Puig came up in the 8th inning with the bases loaded, and hit his 1st career Grand Slam off of Cory Gearrin.  Puig has played only 4 games for the Dodgers after being called up from AA Chattanooga.  In those 4 games, Puig is batting .438 with  3 HR, and 9RBI’s. Andrelton Simmons saw his 11 game hit streak come to an end as he finished 0-4.  Jason Heyward once again had a good night as he ended the game 2-4.  I think the biggest frustration for Braves fans continued on Thursday night as Justin Upton was 0-3 with 3 K’s. The Braves will take a 6.5 game lead over the Phillies into tomorrow night’s game against the Dodgers. The post A Puig and a Poke: Braves Shut Out in Los Angeles appeared first on Atlanta Bullpen.
