Sports On A Stick:
By Jesse ArroyoSportsonastick.comMay 18, 2009 Alex Rodriguez recently returned to New Yankee Stadium for his first home game since his offseason hip surgery. Alex showed no ill effects on the road, smashing a home run in his first at-bat, but his first home game was a different story, striking out in his only at-bat with two men on base and getting roundly booed by the home crowd. When interviewed after the game, Alex said that it was "Great to be back" and that he was looking forward to resuming all of his activities on and off the field. Rodriguez had several highly publicized photo shoots while rehabbing, but wasn't able to devote time to his first love, fashion modeling. "With my hip the way it was, the doctors didn't want me to do my little turn on the catwalk. I'm hoping to get out on the runway and work it out, and maybe move on to Dancing With the Stars." Rodriguez, who has recently come under fire for use of steroids--reputedly as far back as grade school--is also considering what to do when his contract with Maybelline runs out this summer. "I've loved the custom lipstick line they created for me," he said, adding "Nobody else can give me that perfect shade of lavender that doesn't smear when I slide into base." Alex's agent, Scott Boras, has been urging him to drop the cosmetics manufacturer, as posters stating, "Maybe he's born with it, maybe it's Deca-Durabolin," have started popping up in the stands. Alex refused to comment on the issue, and Derek Jeter was as bland as usual, saying "Playing in New York can be tough. Alex is a part of this team. We just want to win. We will take it one day at a time." However, Nick Swisher offered some words, including, "I thought A-Rod was a tool before I came to the Yankees, and now I pretty much know he is a total *******." There was no confirmation of rumors that Rodriguez would be joining Mike Piazza this fall to reprise the role of Edna Turnblad in the national tour of Hairspray.
