Contrary to a lot of reports about the 85.5 million, 6-year deal Adam Jones signed with the Baltimore Orioles, he is worth every penny. Some critics have been calling out the Orioles for throwing too much money at Jones, saying that Jones isn’t worth the big cash. That’s definitely not the case. Before signing the extension, Jones was in the last year of his contract and loosing him to free agency was looming for the city of Baltimore. After starting the year as one of the best players in the MLB, the Orioles decided to make Jones the highest paid Oriole of all time and remove all doubt from Orioles fans. Jones is currently batting .308 with 14 HR’s and 31 RBI which leads the Orioles in all three offensive categories.

Jones is the cornerstone player the Orioles have been looking for the past decade. He’s a true 5-tool player who has speed, can hit for average and power, plays solid defense and has a canon for an arm. He has the potential to be an annual All-Star and the Orioles hope that he can use his talents to take them to a place they haven’t been since 1997, the playoffs. In order to get to the playoffs this season, the Orioles will need their surprisingly good pitching to continue and they’ll need the rest of their lineup to continue to hit the ball well. Regardless of if the Orioles are able to continue their current hot streak this year and make it to the playoffs, the signing of Jones is a good move for the O’s. At age 26, they’re aren’t many other players in the league that MLB GM’s would like to build around.
