The Dodgers, continuing their early offseason activity, were closing in on a one-year, major-league contract Tuesday with free-agent infielder Adam Kennedy, according to a major-league source.

It happens every year. Ned Colletti signs some guy to an above the market contract (Uribe, Ramirez, a million others) and over the course of the deal that player doesn’t earn what he’s signed for.
Then Colletti signs someone that’s overlooked to be a utility player, and the guy outperforms his contract (Carroll, Miles, etc).
So with Mark Ellis having a pretty bad injury history...
