Adam Wainwright says he is 'obsessed with' Tim Tebow

I know this may be earth-shattering news, but a lot of people like Tim Tebow.  He’s kind of popular.  Tebow’s team may have recently been embarrassed by the Patriots in Foxboro, but his following remains as strong as ever.  There are a number of men out there who — whether they admit it or not — have a serious man crush on Teebs.  In many ways, I can’t say I blame them.  Very few, however, feels as strongly about Tebow as Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright.

“I am obsessed with Tim Tebow,” Wainwright said according to an MLB.com story.  “I’m not afraid to say it. It’s almost embarrassing to us athletes that this much emphasis is put on Tim Tebow because that means we aren’t living our lives as we should. If we did that more often, the way he is living wouldn’t be as big a story. I’m so proud of him for living out his faith.

“Tim Tebow is such a great role model. I feel like he’s the face of sports right now, and rightfully so. He gives the whole nation something to believe in. It’s a story of hope.”

Tebow certainly is the face of sports and he certainly is a quality role model.  Wainwright is not the first, nor the second professional athlete to praise Tebow and he won’t be the last.  As far as obsession is concerned, that may be a little much.  I think everything Tebow does for the community and the way he uses his celebrity status to better the lives of others is terrific, but something about grown men worshiping other grown men just throws me for a loop.

  • I agreee with Adam Wainwright, Tebow should be praised for showing his faith and being proud of it, I also think more athletes need to follow in his footsteps! You go TEBOW and you too WAINWRIGHT!!!

  • Wainwright and Tebow certainly have the right to their style of worship, but don't insinuate that because I'm not a bible-thumping religious fanatic that I am somehow morally inferior. I owned a business for 18 years and I will put my business reputation up against anyone, no matter how religious they claim to be. You don't need to be religious to have ethics or morals. As for Tebow's football career, I wish him nothing but the best. If he didn't play for Denver I would probably root for him. But don't blame the world's troubles on secularism.

  • For what? How about for not being a typical douchebag athlete?

    Religion aside, the guy is completely selfless and humble. By all indications, he genuinely cares more about other people than he does himself. The fact that you can't appreciate such a mindset, and apparently care more about his throwing motion, speaks volumes about you as a person.

  • Actually Tebow SHOULD be praised for how he is as an athlete and person. Not that he has a faith but that he stands up for it. The amount of things he does for the community, and the fact that he flies a child from his foundation to the games (home or away) to watch the game and meet many great people and get to spend a lot of time with him. He SHOULD be praised for how he treats people and how serious he takes being an athlete AND a role model. That's why he SHOULD be praised.

In 2006, the American Psychological Assn. said that the positions pushed by Focus “create an environment in which prejudice and discrimination can flourish.” Focus on the Family is NOT a religious organization, it is a political PAC. That's why some people aren't buying his "nice guy" act. As long as he agrees with the conservative movement, they'll be happy use his celebrity and over-look his obvious lack of talent as an NFL QB.
