BOWIE – The Akron Aeros dropped the finale of a seven-game road trip with a 3-2 loss to the Bowie Baysox on Wednesday morning.  Toru Murata (4-5, 3.78) dealt five scoreless innings for the Aeros before the Baysox finally ignited some offense. Meanwhile, the Aeros scored immediately on Bowie starter Tyler Wilson (5-1, 2.42). Shortstop Francisco Lindor led off the game with a single, and with one out, left fielder Cedric Hunter homered deep to right, giving Akron the early 2-0 advantage. The Baysox tied the game in the sixth inning as they also used the long ball to score. Right fielder Trayvon Robinson doubled to right before left fielder Caleb Joseph sent his 17th home run of the season to left-center to level the score at 2-2. That was all that Murata accounted for as the sixth inning was his last, sealing his line at six innings pitched, surrendering two runs on three hits, two walks and five strikeouts.  Reliever Shawn Armstrong entered the game to start the seventh for the Aeros...

Lindor-Mania takes over Canal Park in Aeros Win

Akron, OH – By the third time Francisco Lindor walked up to the plate Thursday night at Canal Park, the Akron faithful began to chant, "Fran-cis-co." The highly-touted Indians prospect put on a show and gave everyone a look into the type of hitter he can be, going 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and three runs batted in to lead the Aeros to a 5-1 win over the Richmond...

A three year Indians review: Shortstop

This is the third part in this series, and thus far the Indians have been strongly improved over two positions.  The first two positions I looked at were first base and second base, so it's time to continue across the diamond in counter-clockwise fashion and look at the shortstop position. This is the only position which has stayed consistent over the last few years for the...

Around The Farm: July 25, 2013

Around the Farm takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians prospects throughout the system. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.  Francisco Lindor (SS, Akron): 3-for-5, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 SO Well, it took 10 games, but Lindor finally struck out at the Double-A level. He added a double and home run last...

Second Thoughts Game #101: Indians 10, Mariners 1

Pre-Game Commentary The Indians needed to win this game. They’ve started off the second half in disappointing fashion, losing four of their first five games. Worse yet, all of the losses were by one run and were more than winnable games. The team is lucky to only have fallen back one game on the Tigers, but they missed a good opportunity to gain some ground. They need to salvage...

Indians minor-league notebook: Akron Aeros

This week we jump down I-77 to Double-A Akron, where the Indians have some of the hottest prospects in their system. There are a lot of players in Akron that could be part of the Indians roster in the near future, or who could be used as trade bait. Just the Facts Akron (51-53) sits in fourth place in the Eastern Leagues Western Division, 5.5 games out of first place and 2.5 games...

Second Thoughts Game #100: Indians 3, Mariners 4

Return of the Mac The long-anticipated return of Zach McAllister to the Indians rotation is finally here and while his first start wasn’t all that great, we’ll still take it considering the circumstances. The right-hander pitched five innings allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits and had to work around miscues by his defense as well as his own rustiness...

Sailing with the Clippers: 7/18/13 to 7/24/13

Pitching has been the name of the game for the Clippers as the second-half of their season has gotten off to a promising 4-3 start. They could easily be 7-0 as their losses came by three runs or less (two of them were by a one-run deficit). With a limited offense, the pitching staff is key and if they keep the runs down, Columbus has a shot of making a late-season push for the playoffs...

Indians 10 Mariners 1: Kazmir’s dominant run continues as offense awakens

We have been waiting for the offense to wake up and they finally did. The hot and cold streaks are no doubt frustrating. It is games like this one where the Wahoos scored 10 runs on 13 hits, where you scratch your head at how they can be so anemic at times. A day after a second straight blunder-filled one run loss, the angry Indians took their frustrations out on Mariners left-hander...

Minor League Baseball Team Holding Ridiculous ‘Sharknado Night’ Promotion

The Cleveland Indians’ Class-A affiliate, Lake Count Captains are jumping on the latest flop of a TV show and buzz-worthy on Twitter TV show’s bandwagon for a new promotion, and you can’t help but laugh. The team will be holding a Sharknado promotion on Aug. 15th and it will have everything if their ridiculous press release is any indication. (Eastlake, OH) – The Lake County...

Clippers blow early lead, fall 4-1

BUFFALO- With both offenses being unproductive, pitching was left with little room for error Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Field. The Buffalo Bisons got the upper hand and scored two runs in the sixth inning and then two more in the eighth to defeat the Columbus Clippers 4-1. Right-hander Danny Salazar started on the mound for Columbus and dazzled across four superb innings. Salazar...

Indians left stunned again in Seattle, lose 4-3

SEATTLE—It was just last season that Tribe starter Zach McAllister led the league in unearned runs. Making his first start since June 2, the right-hander received no help defensively again Tuesday night. Three more errors and lack run support proved more than a recipe for disaster, as the Indians fell one run short to the Seattle Mariners for the second straight night, 4-3. Offensively...

Kazmir stellar in Indians 10-1 win over Mariners

SEATTLE (AP) -- Scott Kazmir allowed just one hit over his eight innings, Michael Bourn hit his first career grand slam and the Cleveland Indians routed the Seattle Mariners 10-1 Wednesday. The only hit Kazmir (6-4) gave up was a clean leadoff single to center by Justin Smoak in the fifth. Kazmir struck out seven, walked two and allowed an unearned run. He threw 103 pitches and was...

Professional baseball presents a constant course of inevitable challenges, but Nick Hamilton has overcome adversity since his toddler years. Hamilton, 23, was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 35th round of the 2012 amateur draft. The Kent State alumnus earned a degree in Business Management but now, all business resides on the ball field. Hamilton entered the 2012 draft...
