Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon has plenty to be frustrated about as his team continues to struggle.

In the seventh inning Wednesday, with a Rays 4-0 lead against the Cleveland Indians slipping away, he vented against plate umpire Dan Iassogna.

There had been an extremely questionable strike-three call against Rays right fielder Matt Joyce in the sixth inning. Then in the seventh, Iassogna called a ball on a pitch Maddon felt was strike three on Cleveland's Jason Kipnis, who went on to single home the tying run as the Indians scored five on six consecutive two-out hits.

"Danny Iassogna is a good umpire," Maddon said. "He missed that call. He absolutely blew that call. And that's a big play in tonight's game."

Big enough to have changed everything, even though the Rays made plenty of other mistakes in a 10-6 loss.

"That's strike three, and all of a sudden the inning is over, and of a sudden everybody's happy," Maddon said. "Jake goes home happy, he pets his dog, he kisses his wife, he feels really good about tonight's performance. But when you miss a call like that under those circumstances, then everybody goes home with a negative vibe, and I refuse to do that."

The Rays had played well in building their lead, but they made a number of mistakes in dropping back to 47-45.
