BEST OF MAXIM
The Red Sox made their second bold move in as many days on Wednesday, optioning struggling righty Alfredo Aceves to AAA Pawtucket following the team's 6-5 victory against the Oakland Athletics. According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the Red Sox will spend the next 72 hours trying to trade Aceves, who has posted an ugly 8.66 ERA in five games (three starts) so far this...
Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
The Red Sox announced following Wednesday’s 6-5 victory over the A’s that they have optioned right-hander Alfredo Aceves to Triple-A Pawtucket. It is not yet known whom the Sox will call up to take his...
Red Sox pitcher Alfredo Aceves, shelled for seven earned runs in less than four innings, blamed a small strike zone for his terrible outing.
The Red Sox have optioned right-hander Alfredo Aceves to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Boston made the move following Wednesday's 6-5 victory over Oakland and one day after Aceves had a dismal outing in a 13-0 loss to the Athletics.
Aceves allowed eight runs, seven earned, and seven hits in 3 1-3 innings. He walked four and committed a pair of balks before he was pulled.
The Boston Red Sox optioned pitcher Alfredo Aceves to Triple-A on Wednesday. Aceves had struggled after being moved into the Red Sox rotation for an injured John Lackey.
In 17 2/3 innings of work Aceves had a 8.66 ERA and a 2.09 WHIP. After his latest outing he claimed that the strike zone was too small.
With the demotion of Aceves the Red Sox promoted catcher Ryan Lavarnway. Lavarnway’s...
The Red Sox finally ran out of patience with Alfredo Aceves – at least for the time being.
The Red Sox announced that they have optioned Aceves to Triple-A Pawtucket. The move comes just one day after Aceves struggled mightily against the Athletics while starting in place of the injured John Lackey.
Aceves’ somewhat controversial behavior has led to widespread speculation about...

Of all the excuses…in all the universe…why?
Red Sox former relief pitcher turned starter was crushed in Tuesday’s game vs the Oakland A’s in which he gave up 7 earned runs and the Sox eventually lost 13-0.
Rain cut short the brutally one sided affair and afterwards Aceves offered up the following to explain his bad showing:
“It’s hard to explain to you guys,…You...
It looks as though the Alfredo Aceves era with the Boston Red Sox is coming to an end.
According to multiple media outlets and first reported by CSN New England, Aceves has been optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket. He'll have 72 hours to report to PawSox.
Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reports that catcher Ryan Lavarnway will be called up to replace Aceves on the 25-man...
Alfredo Aceves pitched two strong innings, followed by one disastrous one.
Aceves' own mistakes and a few by his teammates piled up quickly as Oakland scored six runs in the third and went on to shut out the Red Sox 13-0 Tuesday night in a game shortened to seven innings because of rain.
''It's not like only one thing. It's couple things,'' Aceves said...
Allen Webster’s second big league start could come sooner than expected.
Alfredo Aceves was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket after Wednesday’s game against the Athletics. That means the Red Sox will be turning elsewhere if John Lackey is unavailable to return for Sunday’s start against the Astros. Webster should make sure his phone is charged, as he’ll likely be the first one...
Alfredo Aceves of the Boston Red Sox did not have himself a good night on Tuesday. Aceves' Red Sox lost 13-0 to the A's in seven innings, and Aceves had a historically bad performance. He threw just 3 2/3 innings, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits, walking four, and striking out three. Aceves also balked twice, and committed a throwing error. No pitcher has...
8 a.m. ET: After three hotly contested games against Kansas City over the weekend, the Red Sox finally seemed primed for a relatively easy victory against Oakland on Monday.
The final result ended up being a little closer than John Farrell’s club would have liked, with a six-run cushion dwindling down to three after a rough eighth inning. Still, Andrew Bailey was able to put the...
This offseason the Red Sox went back to basics in terms of reemphasizing patience at the plate. While probably pharmaceutically aided, the Red Sox bats were undone by a wily veteran who pounded the strike zone.
Luckily most pitchers can't command their fastball like Bartolo Colon can in this second act of his career. Any pitcher with even average command of his fastball should...
No, the two parts of that headline are not related.
It was a rough night in Boston sports, as all three teams lost and looked bad doing it. The Celtics appear to be at the end of the line, (wait, are they really not better without Rajon Rondo????) the Bruins are disappointing, and Alfredo Aceves and the Red Sox bats both failed to show up last night. Let’s move on…
