Sox and Dawgs:
Boston Red Sox
After getting spanked last night, the Boston Red Sox look to salvage a split of their four-game series tonight with the Minnesota Twins at historic Fenway Park.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. If you live in the Red Sox television market you can catch the game on NESN. If you live in the Twins television market, you can catch the game on Fox Sports North. And if you can't catch the game on television, you can always listen on the 2013 Red Sox Radio Network.
John Lackey makes just his fourth start of 2013. In his previous three starts, Lackey is 1-2 with a 3.52 ERA. He last faced the Twins when he picked up the win after allowing two runs in 6.2 innings of work. He's made 15 career starts against them and is 7-5 with a 3.68 ERA.
Kevin Correia makes his seventh start of 2013 and in the AL. In his previous six starts, Correia is 3-2 with a 2.83 ERA. His lone career appearance against the Red Sox came in 2007 when he threw one inning of scoreless ball at the ...
BEST OF MAXIM
It was easy to see the train of thought that Red Sox GM Ben Cherington took this offseason. The American League has long been a conference that has boasted good hitting, and combated with equally good pitching. With this knowledge in toe, the Sox built their 2013 model around the ability to match up favorably against right and left handed pitching. A byproduct of this bigger thought...
It’s been a little over a calendar year since the Red Sox called up Will Middlebrooks to the majors. Kevin Youkilis went on the DL, and Middlebrooks took over and won the hearts of Boston fans, even in the midst of a miserable season for the Sox. In his first 41 games, he hit .326/.365/.583. It was a fantastic line, especially for a rookie. His performance, coupled with injuries...
It was only a matter of time before the question arose. You know, THE question that everyone in baseball asks when a player is doing well. No, not “what substance is that on his arm?” (Sorry, Clay). The other one.
“Is he on the juice?”
At 37 years old and batting .414 with a 27-game hitting streak, David Ortiz is facing the question. Again...
John Lackey really can’t catch a break.
Lackey pitched very well in Thursday’s loss to the Twins, yet it’s one play that ultimately doomed his outing and overshadowed everything else that went right. What makes the whole situation stink even more for Lackey is that it isn’t the first time this season he’s had an unfortunate sequence bury him.
The Red Sox jumped out to a...
After seven long years pitching in the minor leagues and going through Tommy John Surgery in 2008, Jose De La Torre will finally get his chance to pitch in the majors. On Thursday, the Boston Red Sox optioned pitcher Allen Webster, who struggled against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday allowing eight runs in less than two innings, to make room for De La Torre. Since being acquired...
Will Middlebrooks, the third base middle-of-the-order bat for the Boston Red Sox, was removed in the seventh inning of Tuesday’s game after colliding with backup catcher, David Ross.
Middlebrooks, who has developed a reputation for being injury prone in his young career, stayed in the game immediately after the collision (Ross left immediately) in the fifth inning, but eventually...
David Ortiz's hitting streak is rolling along even if the Boston Red Sox are not, and manager John Farrell has decided to make some changes.
Ortiz looks to extend his hitting streak to 28 games while staying hot against his former team as rookie Allen Webster makes his second career start against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday night at Fenway Park.
Boston (21-12) had won seven...
Here is a commercial from the Boston Red Sox about starting pitcher Ryan Dempster's motivation each time he takes the mound.

Heading into Friday night, the Red Sox, Orioles and Yankees sat tied for first place in the American League East — though New York technically held an edge by percentage point. Boston’s recent struggles, coupled with the O’s season-long consistency and the Yankees’ surprising success despite a glut of injuries, have created some intense competition in one of baseball’s...
The Red Sox don’t open up their road interleague slate for another three weeks. But that doesn’t mean they’re not already preparing.
Red Sox pitchers have already begun taking batting practice. Boston doesn’t travel to an interleague park until May 29 in Philadelphia, but manager John Farrell thinks extra preparation swinging the bat will serve the club well when it does...
Allen Webster will get his second start tonight. Photo from the Boston Globe.
Allen Webster is set to make his second career start tonight, according to mlb.com. He'll match up against Jose Hernandez, and it should be an interesting matchup of two promising young talents. According to mlb.com, Webster hit an average velocity of 95 during his last start in April. He is currently...
Once owners of the best record in the majors, the slumping Boston Red Sox now find themselves out of the top spot in the AL East for the first time this season.
The Red Sox hope to get back on track and avoid their seventh loss in eight games Friday night when they open a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park.
Boston (21-14) has one win since a major league...
And it was ugly almost from the very start. Following a lead-off strikeout of Jamey Carroll by Red Sox rookie starting pitcher Allen Webster, the Twins banged across 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning en route to a 15-8 rout of Boston at Fenway Park.
Webster (pictured) didn't get through the 2nd inning, going 1.2 innings charged with 8 runs (all earned) on 6 hits (2 were...
5:10 p.m.: Joel Hanrahan visited Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion on his throwing arm on Friday. The right-hander is dealing with an injury to his flexor muscle tendon, and he’ll be out at least two months after being transferred to the 60-day disabled list on Thursday.
There is a possibility that Hanrahan’s season is over, but manager John Farrell said that no decision...
