Sox and Dawgs:
Boston Red Sox
After going 5-2 on their homestand, the Boston Red Sox head out on a three-city, 11 day, 10 game road trip. Tonight, they'll kick it off with the first of three games against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park.
First pitch is scheduled for 8:10 p.m. The game will broadcast on NESN in the Red Sox television market. If you live in the Astros television market, you can catch the game on CSN Houston. And if you can't catch the game on television, you can always listen on the 2013 Red Sox Radio Network.
John Lackey toes the slab for the 20th time in 2013. In his previous 19 starts, Lackey is 7-8 with a 3.23 ERA. He picked the win in his first start of 2013 which came against the Astros after allowing one run in six innings of work on April 28. He's made two career starts against them and is 1-0 with a 5.91 ERA (7 ER/10.2 IP). This will be his first start at Minute Maid Park.
Brett Oberholtzer makes his second start (fifth apperance) of 2013. In his previous f...
BEST OF MAXIM
Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here...
highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as
satisfying as a good morning dump.
John Lackey was the tough-luck loser in the Red Sox 2-0 loss to the
Astros at Minute Maid Park Monday night. Tweaking the specifics – team,
score, venue -- that sentence could be written about Lackey...
Maybe this is John Lackey‘s baseball penance.
The Red Sox right-hander, who has been arguably the club’s best, most consistent and most durable pitcher in this turnaround 2013 season, just can’t seem to buy a win. No team in baseball has more wins than the Red Sox do right now. Yet Lackey’s seven wins are the second-fewest in the Boston rotation and his nine losses are the...
John Lackey recorded a strong outing once again for the Red Sox, but the Astros came out on top in the first game of the series that proved to be a pitcher’s duel.
Lackey allowed only two runs on eight hits while striking out 10 over six innings, but the Sox couldn’t figure out Houston’s rookie starter, Brett Oberholtzer and failed to put any runs on the board for their right...
Despite another good start from John Lackey, the Red Sox offense could not figure out Brett Oberholtzer as the Astros shut out Boston, 2-0.
Oberholtzer gave up four hits over seven shutout innings against the best run producing team in the Majors. The Sox offense had their chances and they were getting contact but it was plenty of pop ups as the Sox had 11 fly ball outs.Dustin Pedroia...
The Red Sox will send John Lackey (tonight), Stephen Wright (Tuesday) and Ryan Dempster (Wednesday) to the hill for their 3-game set with the abysmal Houston Astros. Houston—which has lost its last four games—is in last palce in the AL West with just 36 wins. They have achieved a perfect symmetry this year in one sense. They are (18-37) at home and (18-37) on the road.
John Lackey pitched another gem on Monday night in Houston, going six innings, striking out ten batters and only walking two. Unfortunately, Lackey also was tagged with the loss, dropping his record to 7-9 for the season.
During the baseballs stone-ages, Lackey’s under .500 record would be a reflection of the rough season that Lackey was having, or maybe how John Lackey somehow...
10:30 a.m. ET: The Red Sox have a long stretch ahead of them. Boston (68-45) is playing 16 of its next 19 games on the road, starting with a 10-game road trip that begins tonight.
Luckily for the Sox, the first stop is in Houston, where Boston will face the struggling Astros (36-74). The Sox have mopped up on the American League’s newest arrivals so far this year, sweeping them...
(Photo by Bob Levey/Getty Images)John Lackey twisted his ankle, came back out to pitch, and struck out 10. But that still wasn't enough to get the Red Sox a win at Minute Maid Park tonight. Boston was shut down on five hits and beaten 2-0 by the immortal Brett Oberholtzer and two relievers. The Red Sox stranded eight baserunners in the loss, and saw their AL East lead shaved...
Despite 10 strikeouts from John Lackey, the Boston Red Sox were unable to get anything going against rookie Brett Oberholtzer in a 2-0 loss to the Houston Astros on Monday night at Minute Maid Park.

That’s right, folks, I’m in. After months of resisting the allure of the 2013 Red Sox, I can resist no more. Why now, you ask? The hot start in April wasn’t enough. The new and improved John Lackey wasn’t enough. The improbable come-from-behind, walk-off wins weren’t enough. Why now?!?!
Two words: Jake Peavy. After one start, I’m convinced he is the secret weapon that...
The Boston Red Sox are going to be on the road for most of the next three weeks, but their travels begin in a favorable place.
The AL-leading Red Sox will face baseball's worst team as they send John Lackey to the mound Monday night in the opener of a three-game set against the Houston Astros.
Boston (68-45) begins a 10-game trip and a stretch in which it plays 16 of 19 on...
The Red Sox pitching staff representing first place in the AL East by a game and a half over the Tampa Bay Rays got a little bit of good news today as starters Clay Buchholz and John Lackey showed signs of getting back into the rotation and recently acquired reliever Matt Thornton also is heading back to the big league bullpen according to Gene Duffey of MLB.com.
Red Sox righthander...
If you've followed the Red Sox this season you know that the backend of the rotation has been stellar. Thanks to the resurgence of one John Lackey, the three thru five spots have carried the load, and kept the Red Sox afloat during many a games.
However, Felix Doubront has somehow continued to fly below the radar (or hidden within Lackey&...
