Sox and Dawgs:
After being Granderslammed last night 10-3, the Boston Red Sox really need to get back on track in the middle game of a three-game set with the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.
First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. and will be broadcast to 77% of the country on FOX. If you can't catch the television broadcast, you can always listen to it on the Red Sox radio network.
After being embarrassed his last time out, Jon Lester looks to turn his fortunes back around in his 21st of 2012. In his previous 20 starts, Lester is 5-8 with a 5.46 ERA. He took the loss in his only start of the season against the Yankees after allowing four runs in 4.1 innings back on July 8th. Lester has made 18 career starts against the Bronx Bombers and is 8-4 with a 4.33 ERA. 10 of those starts have come in the Bronx where he is 6-2 with a 3.75 ERA.
CC Sabathia will make his third start since returning from the DL and it will be his 18th start of the season. In his previous 17 st...

NEW YORK -- Coming off his worst outing of the season, Jon Lester elected to tweak his bullpen session. Before Wednesday's game against the Rangers, Lester tossed his scheduled bullpen with Pedro Ciriaco and Daniel Nava standing at the plate. The reason was for Lester to simulate an authentic sequence with batters, except these batters weren't swinging. "He threw the...
Dustin Pedroia may not wear the "C" emblem on his shirt like Jason Varitek did for seven years, but that didn't stop him from publicly challenging his teammates to give a better effort on the field. The Red Sox, losers of seven of their last 10 after Friday night's 10-3 loss, find themselves at a crossroads in their season with a record of 49-51 and the trade deadline...
NEW YORK -- Andrew Bailey is willing to make a sacrifice. Since he's missed the majority of the 2012 season, the All-Star pitcher is willing to succumb his closer's role to Alfredo Aceves for the rest of the year. Having acknowledged that Boston's bullpen has already developed a rhythm, Bailey doesn't want to mess up the chemistry. As a result, he volunteered to pitch...
NEW YORK -- Daisuke Matsuzaka is resuming his rehab. After making four starts for the Red Sox -- in his return from Tommy John surgery -- Matsuzaka was placed back on the disabled list on July 3 with a nagging neck injury. This time, he's hoping the worst is behind him. Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said the hurler would start a rehab assignment on Monday in Pawtucket. It&...
NEW YORK -- The Red Sox could be without Scott Atchison for longer than they anticipated. After pitching one inning for Pawtucket on Friday night, the reliever woke up on Saturday morning feeling more pain. The 36-year-old has been sidelined since July 13 with forearm tightness, which prevented him from throwing his signature cutter. It likely played a role in his awful outing in...
Reports out of Boston are that a depraved criminal has kidnapped Wally the Green Monster! Actually, to be more accurate, someone absconded with the beloved Boston Red Sox mascot’s outfit, making off with getup after pilfering it and sneaking out of Fenway Park with the costume. Via NBC Connecticut: “Missing: Wally the Green Monster, If [...]
For weeks now, we've been wondering if the Sox will be buyers or sellers at next Tuesday's non-waiver trade deadline. It no longer matters. Either would be acceptable. As long as this team does something. The Sox had a much-needed day off Thursday in New York after losing two of three in Texas. They've lost five of six overall and 15 of 24. Not a trend that builds confidence...
The Red Sox were crushed 10-3 by the Yankees on Friday night, but came back and got the best of New York with a 8-6 win on Saturday. Now, with the series tied, the Red Sox will look to win the the three-game series, one people probably expected the Yankees to sweep. Carl Crawford is back in the lineup for Boston after he was given the day off on Saturday as a part of manager Bobby...
The Red Sox, fresh off losing a series in Texas, now head to New York for three games with the @#$%-Yankees. How might the Sox recent play and the absence of David Ortiz from the lineup play out among the free MLB picks for this series?
Do the Red Sox miss their Big Papi? Let us count the ways. After dropping two of three games to the Rangers in Arlington Boston has now lost six...
It has been a rough week for the Red Sox. Boston has lost six of its last seven games, and the primary culprit has been the team's starting pitchers, who have an 8.01 ERA in those seven games. To be fair, those games have been played against the American League's first-, second- and fourth-ranked offenses in terms of runs scored -- the Red Sox are third in that category ...
According to a report from the Boston Herald, David Ortiz is eligible to come off of the 15 day disabled list on Wednesday, August 1st prior to a start against the Detroit Tigers. The report also indicated that the Red Sox slugger participated in batting practice at Yankee Stadium on Friday night.
This is a good sign for the Red Sox and Ortiz’s fantasy owners. Ortiz is having...

Make no mistake about it - this is an important series for the Red Sox. And to drop the 1st game of a 3-game set in the Bronx against the Yankees with 60-something games left on the schedule was not supposed to be part of the plan. The Yankees pounded out 10 hits in a resounding 10-3 win over the Red Sox. The Red Sox slammed three home runs off Yankee starter Phil Hughes, including...
