Found June 13, 2013 on Pirates Prospects:
A.J. Burnett will miss his next start with a right calf issue. (Photo Credit: David Hague) The Pittsburgh Pirates haven’t made a decision on who will go down to make room for Charlie Morton on the 25-man and 40-man roster. One issue is that A.J. Burnett has been scratched from his start tomorrow with a right calf injury. Burnett made the team aware of his injury yesterday. If Burnett goes on the 15-day DL it would create a spot on the 25-man roster for Morton. However, a spot would need to be made on the 40-man roster. Jeff Locke will start on Friday, and the starter for Saturday is TBD. A lot of questions for the Pirates to answer right now, and I’ll keep this post updated as I hear more from James Santelli, who is at PNC Park right now.

Pirates' Burnett to start Sunday

A.J. Burnett is set to return to the Pittsburgh Pirates' rotation. Pirates Notebook: Charlie Morton Makes 2013 Debut… Now What?

Charlie Morton returns after nine rehab starts in the minor leagues. Pirates right-handed pitcher Charlie Morton returns to the mound Thursday night at PNC Park, facing the San Francisco Giants almost one year to the day since his reconstructive elbow surgery. Morton becomes the 10th different starting pitcher Pittsburgh has used, yet the Pirates still maintain the 5th-best rotation...

The return of Charlie Morton

Let's be straight about this: Charlie Morton is probably my favorite Pirate. The guy came through the minors with all of the talent in the world, but couldn't get it right in the big leagues. He completely scrapped his approach and rebuilt himself from the ground up, turning in one of the more pleasantly surprising Pirate performances in recent memory in 2011. It seemed like...

Charlie Morton to Start Thursday, Wandy Rodriguez on Disabled List

Right-handed pitcher Charlie Morton is set to start Thursday for the Pirates, one year to the day before his Tommy John surgery. While returning to the Majors 12 months after the reconstructive elbow procedure is a relatively quick recovery time, Morton has been itching to get back for a while. Charlie Morton is expected to face the Giants on Thursday. “I was on pace to be back...

Giants 10, Pirates 0

Not much to say about this one other than that it was “one of those nights.” The Bucs failed miserably in their quest for a sweep and were blown out by the Giants on Thursday. Charlie Morton‘s outing was probably the most positive takeaway from the game – and he was just mediocre. Morton came out throwing 95 MPH fastballs and his curve was looking filthy, generating several...

Game 66: Giants 10 Pirates 0

It seems like poor form to try and take something positive out of this game because this game was pretty terrible, but, well, why dwell on the obvious?  Really, the only positive from this whole game is that despite the lackluster result, Charlie Morton does appear to be stronger as a result of his Tommy John surgery. Morton's average fastball velocity in 2010 was almost...

Forging ahead

For at least the next turn or two, the Pirates' rotation is going to look something like this: Jeff Locke, Brandon Cumpton, Gerrit Cole, Francisco Liriano, Charlie Morton. This is pretty far from what anyone thought the rotaiton would look like in mid-June. That includes Charlie Morton and Brandon Cumpton, I think. And yet, here we are. Despite this avalanche of injuries, the...

Thursday’s SF Giants lineup vs. Pirates, plus notes and links

The Giants’ road woes continue. With two straight defeats in Pittsburgh, San Francisco is now 12-20 on the road and just 33-31 overall. To their great fortune there is no breakaway team in the NL West, with Arizona on top at 37-29. If the Giants called the NL Central home, they would be 8.5 games behind the world-beating Cardinals. The Giants will face Pirates’ pitcher Charlie...
