Albert Pujols, meet rock bottom. Rock bottom, I'd like to introduce you to Albert Pujols.

As if Pujols' now infamous homerless streak wasn't already bad enough, you can add a new ignominious achievement to his 2012 resume: he's dropped below the Mendoza line. After going 0-for-4 against Henderson Alvarez and Toronto tonight, Albert's batting average on the season now stands at a lowly .194. To add insult to injury, Pujols was booed loudly by the home fans at Angel Stadium in his final two at-bats.

The man that a few months ago was treated like arriving royalty at his introductory press conference is now being booed. Loudly.

It is hard to blame Angels fans for getting frustrated and targeting Pujols with their frustration as his poor performance was central to the Halos getting shutout for the second consecutive game and for the sixth time this season, the most in baseball. Oh, and it was also the fifth consecutive start for Ervin Santana in which the Angels have been shutout, which just so happens to be a MLB record in its own right. Yes, the natives are more than justified in getting restless.

While Albert Pujols certainly isn't solely responsible for this epic offensive ineptitude, he is its face and until Pujols turns into the franchise savior that he was believed to be and gets the Angels back to winning, he is going to keep getting booed.

It could be looooooong season in Anaheim.

  • And he makes 240 million
  • Maybe he should donate $100 to the fans for beer
  • Tell me if he does I'll be there to drink to that. Joe....
  • really? thats just sad and pathetic. way to stay behind your team. so what he is struggling. its not like its october. calm down. its not his fault they are losing. if you are gonna boo him then boo half of the rest of the team for batting under .250. both wells and aybar have just as bad on base percentage. he has more hits than aybar and wells as well. or how about the fact that 5 of the relievers have at least one loss. no i dont like that hes struggling, but just be fair about it. if your gonna be an ass and blame one person for an entire team's struggle then your obviously not a fan. hes a lifetime .320 hitter. he will get back into the groove of things and do it again. and im sure it would make it easier for him if his "fans" would support him
  • Your are right on. New team, new league, and new boss. I know he is a professional. Look what happen to Tori an Wells there first year. The money forces you to mentally think you have to perform big right away. I like your observation. Now you are a real sports fan. Joe...
  • Well, I guess that it sucks to be Albert. What he is unaware of is that a couple of friends on mine were making a trip to California just after Albert announced that he was becoming a turncoat and leaving St. Louis. Thay managed ot get into the Angels stadium through some contacts, and buried a torn up Pujols jersy and a voo doo doll with some pins stuck in it, right under home plate. Deep enough that it will be difficult to find. They covered it up like they were never there. Very sneaky. So turncoat has a curse upon his butt and it is showing.
When you sell yourself like that, with no thought of the people that supported you, you deserve what you get.
  • Your silly and hoping thats the case. Thats a loyal fan for you. Hahahaha.
