NEWS AND NOTES
At 103-59 the Yankees had the best record in all of baseball. And at 46-35 they had the second best road record in the American League, behind only the Angels (48-33).

The Yankees and Angels split the season series winning five games each. The Yankees were 2-4 against the Angels this year at Angel Stadium.

Andy Pettitte has faced the Angels 28 times in his career, and is 12-10 with a 4.70 ERA in those games. In Anaheim he's 6-7 with a 4.19 ERA in 16 starts. He made three starts against the Angels in '09 and was 0-2 with a 7.88 ERA. In 16 innings he allowed 14 earned runs on 21 hits, walked 8, and struck out 6.

In 36 career postseason starts Pettitte is 15-9, with a 3.89 ERA. He's currently tied with John Smoltz for first on the all-time postseason wins list.

Jered Weaver has made seven career starts against the Yanks and is 4-2, with a 5.88 ERA in those games. In three starts in '09 he was 1-1, with a 5.59 ERA. In 19.1 innings he allowed 12 earned runs on 16 hits, walked 9, and struck out 13.

In three postseason games (two as a starter) Weaver is 2-1, with a 1.88 ERA.

Alex Rodriguez has at least one RBI in each of the five postseason games this season, and going back to 2007 he has RBI in his last six postseason games.

In 89 games at Angel Stadium A-Rod is hitting .335/.401/.716 with 37 HR and 82 RBI. In six games this season he hit .364/.375/1.091 with 5 HR and 9 RBI.

Derek Jeter is hitting .350/.458/.750 with 2 HR and 4 RBI this postseason.

Here's Joe Girardi when asked about the comparison between the '98 Yankees and the '09 Yanks:

"You have to win a World Series before you can compare the two teams," he said. "The '98 team had an exceptional playoff where we won the World Series. As far as the similarities between the teams, I think there was a resiliency on that team. And I think this club has it as well.

But I think it's unfair to compare until the playoffs are done and you see where you end up."

Agreed.

The Angels are hitting .154/.258/.205 over the first two games against Yankees pitching.

Check out this quote from Torii Hunter via Sam Borden on the 0-2 pitch from Brian Fuentes to Alex Rodriguez:

“I wanted to call timeout,” Hunter said. “I saw it and thought, ‘Nooooo!’ Alex is one of the greatest players in the game. You know he’s going to hit that pitch. There’s a short porch in right field. . . . We threw two fastballs inside, and he didn’t budge. Then we threw one away . . . that was weird.”
