NEWS AND NOTES

At 103-59 the Yankees had the best record in all of baseball. And at 46-35 they had the second best road record in the American League, behind only the Angels (48-33).

The Yankees and Angels split the season series winning five games each. The Yankees were 2-4 against the Angels this year at Angel Stadium. Including the postseason the Yankees are 8-6 against the Angels.

In six career starts against the Angles, A.J. Burnett is 2-2, with a 4.43 ERA. In four starts in Anaheim Burnett is 1-2, with a 4.23 ERA. His only win came this year on September 23rd. That day he threw 5.2 innings and allowed 2 earned runs on 7 hits, walked 3 and struck out 11. He faced the Angels twice in the regular season this year and went 1-0, with a 4.26 ERA. In 12.2 innings he allowed 6 earned runs on 15 hits, walked 4, and struck out 16. In the Yankees game two win on Saturday A.J. allowed 2 earned runs on 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4 in 6.1 innings.

John Lackey has made 16 career starts against the Yankees, and 5-7, with a 4.66 ERA. He won his only start against them this year, going 7 innings and allowing just 2 ER on 6 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6. He took the loss in game one, allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on 9 hits, walked 3, and struck out 3 in 5.2 innings. In 13 career postseason games (11 starts) Lackey is 3-4, with a 3.03 ERA.

Alex Rodriguez has at least one RBI in each of the seven postseason games this season, and going back to 2007 he has RBI in his last eight postseason games. That ties him for a MLB record with Ryan Howard and Lou Gehrig.

In 89 games regular season games at Angel Stadium A-Rod is hitting .335/.401/.716 with 37 HR and 82 RBI. In six games this season he hit .364/.375/1.091 with 5 HR and 9 RBI. This postseason A-Rod is hitting .407/.469/1.000 with 5 HR and 11 RBI.

Derek Jeter is hitting .323/.417/.677 with 3 HR and 5 RBI.

Mark Teixeira is just 4-for-30 this postseason, with one homer and 1 RBI. Even though his bat isn't showing up, his glove is.

Other headlines if you missed it:

  • Apparently the city has no interest in trying to preserve a few pieces of frieze. Richard Sandomir has more on Gate 2's most recent hurdle.
  • Philly fans have been loud and clear. They want to beat the Yanks to prove themselves. Hmm, they're going to look bad as soon as the Yanks send them home! Here's some more Yankee-related quotes from Phils fans. Then this from another PhillyBurbs article. They also got on Manny Ramirez all series with "steroids" chats as well as playing an anti-steroid ad as Manny took his position in left. A-rod may get the same treatment.
  • Mariano was asked if the Yankees were worried about blowing this ALCS like they did back in '04. Mark Feinsand has his answer.
  • Burnett points out that this is why he signed with the Yankees.
  • Don Mattingly reportedly interviewing for the Indians job.
  • The Phillies defeated the Dodgers 10-4 to wrap up the NLCS in five games. They repeat as NL champs and are headed back to the World Series looking to repeat as world champs.
  • Check out the video of the 2009 ALCS Game 2 walk-off error here.
  • According to Marc Carig, Joe Girardi said that Derek Jeter has been petty sick lately. It's amazing how Jeet has performed so far. Imagine if he was healthy?
  • Matt Holliday loves the pinstripes. His .286/.378/.454 hitting line with the A's and that terrible error that cost his team any shot at beating the Dodgers in the NLDS this year is something to think about though. But, you have to at least consider a guy who really wants to come here.
