The Red Sox and Royals don’t have much of a rivalry. Don’t tell that to Alex Gordon or Billy Butler.
Gordon and Butler have both been extremely tough on Boston over the years, and after another successful series by the Royals sluggers, they’re really starting to pad their reputation as Red Sox killers.
Gordon led the charge Sunday as the Royals took down the Red Sox 4-3 in the series finale. He went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, two RBIs and a stolen base, while also making a number of excellent plays in left field. It was an all-too-familiar sight for the Red Sox, who have been on the receiving end of a constant beatdown by Gordon over the years.
Gordon answered the Red Sox’ game-opening run Sunday with an RBI single in the bottom of the first, and he took John Lackey deep for his 13th home run of the season in the third inning to give Kansas City its fourth and eventual winning run. Overall, Gordon went 6-for-12 with two home runs and three RBIs in the final three games of th...

As part of a number of roster moves on Sunday, August 11, the Kansas City Royals have activated starting pitcher Wade Davis and catcher Salvador Perez while placing third/second baseman Miguel Tejada on the disabled list. The Royals made the announcement about Davis in a Sunday mid-day tweet.

In a long overdue move, the Red Sox called up Will Middlebrooks from AAA Pawtucket and immediately inserted him into the lineup on Saturday in Kansas City. The presumed reason for the move was a "Fenway Flu injury" to Brandon Snyder—who was placed on the disabled list. Look for a similar move up of phenom Xander Bogaerts before the rosters expand on September 1st.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The last memory of second baseman Jamey Carroll for most Royals fans was of him mopping up in the eighth inning of the Twins' 13-0 loss last week to the Royals at Kauffman Stadium.
Carroll was effective, retiring the Royals in order.
"With this bullpen and this staff, I don't think I'll be doing that again," Carroll said Monday afternoon...
The Boston Red Sox are reportedly in the market for a right-handed power bat, leading some to speculate they could be interested in corner infielder Mark Reynolds, who was recently designated for assignment by the Cleveland Indians. However, the Red Sox don't view Reynolds as a fit considering his poor defense and high strikeout rate, according to Nick Cafardo of The Boston...

The Kansas City Royals plugged their hole at second base by acquiring 39-year-old Jamey Carroll from the Twins. The Royals agreed to send cash or a player to be named later to Minnesota. The post-deadline deal fills the hole left by Miguel Tejada’s injury—which landed the surprisingly effective Tejada on the 15-day DL.
Carroll has struggled this season after...
Welcome back, Will Middlebrooks.
The third baseman has been recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket to join the Boston Red Sox in Kansas City. Middlebrooks is replacing Brandon Snyder, who has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. More on Middlebrooks later.
Right now, the Red Sox (70-48) are in need of a team ‘W.’ Boston has lost the first two...

For the week the Red Sox went 3-4. The Sox dropped Monday’s game...
