The economic foundation of the MLB teams supports a record breaking number for Mr. Rodriguez. In 1999, one team had a payroll above $100 million dollars a year, in 2007 a full 8 teams have $100 million dollar payrolls (Yankees, Red Sox, Angels, Cubs, Mariners, Mets, White Sox, and the Dodgers), and another 7 teams have $90 million plus payrolls (Astros, Blue Jays, Braves, Cardinals, Giants, Orioles, Phillies).
