Denard Span laced a bases-loaded triple, bookended by a pair of Michael Cuddyer homers in an eight-run seventh inning as the Twins doused the Royals at Kaufmann Stadium on Sunday. While Minnesota won the game, it’s difficult to consider the skills in this line-up and not wonder what might have been for this year’s Twins.
Four players with 20 home runs for the first time since the championship “Mount Crushmore” contingent of 1987 will go to waste.
Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau, Jason Kubel and Cuddyer have all turned the trick, and if Joe Crede (15) can remain healthy for the final five weeks of the season, he has an outside shot, too.
