During the previous two All-Star games the Oakland A’s have managed to pitch two thirds of an inning. Last year Andrew Bailey pitched to one batter and this year Gio Gonzalez pitched to one batter. With the A’s basically out of any contention for a playoff spot why would A’s fans have any interest in the All-Star game? Not since 2007, when Dan Haren started the game for the AL, have A’s fans had anything to watch in the All-Star game. Sure, Justin Duchscherer pitched an inning 3 years ago but was anyone excited about that? It doesn’t help that A’s have sent nothing but pitchers since 2003. Sending a pitcher usually means your player is going to get an inning worth of work tops. At least when you send a position player you have a chance to see him play half the game.
