Found December 21, 2012 on Mets Merized Online:
R.A. Dickey’s Cy Young Award and 20 wins don’t count as  highlights as far as the official Mets 2012 Highlights video is concerned. That is how Andy Martino of the Daily News puts it  In a video posted this week on the Mets official website, and emailed to fans, the team sent along holiday wishes, and presented a brief montage of highlights from the 2012 season. It was all there, from Johan Santana’s June 1 no-hitter, to Ike Davis’ career-high 32 home runs, to David Wright passing Ed Kranepool for the team lead in career hits. That about covered it, right? Nothing else of note happened this year at Citi Field, after all. Wait, what? Somebody won 20 games, and became the first Met to capture a Cy Young Award since Frank Viola? In 2012? And then he was traded to Toronto for top prospects? Are you sure? Not for nothing, but I hope those of you who disagreed with me last week when I accused the Mets of waging a whisper campaign against Dickey can now see for yourselves just how right I...

SAYING GOODBYE

Dickey's farewell message to fans

Reigning Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey was recently traded to the Blue Jays, so he wrote a farewell message to Mets fans.

FAR OUT, MAN

Dickey's knuckleball captured in slow motion

Are you kidding me?  No wonder this ball is so tough to hit and he won the NL Cy Young this year.  Good god, that pitch is a great way to get the batter’s knees to buckle.Looks like the Toronto Blue Jays have made a sound investment trading for Dickey and giving him a 2-year $25 Million extension.

R.A. Dickey’s Knuckleball in Slow Motion Will Make You Pee Your Pants

R.A. Dickey has spent the last couple years with the Mets, and was recently traded to the Toronto Blue Jays.  Last year he recorded a record of 20-6 with a 2.73 ERA.  Not to shabby huh??  All of his success can be attributed to the deadly knuckle ball that he throws.  As far as I know he is the only guy throwing it in the MLB right now and the first since Tim Wakefield to see...

R.A. Dickey Ruined Christmas Apparently

National League Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey is taking some heat and it's not for anything he did on the baseball field. You see, Dickey was recently at a New York Mets holiday party that was designed to benefit some of the victims of superstorm Sandy when, what he calls, an "informal press conference" broke out and the knuckleballer was asked about potentially...

Toronto Blue Jays acquired an ace

Just when you think the Toronto Blue Jays were done with their reeling and dealing they surprise their fans again. After weeks of speculation, the Jays acquired this year’s National League Cy Young winner, R.A. Dickey last night.  If this doesn’t convince you that the Blue Jays are trying to get into the postseason since 1993, then I don’t know what will. I’ve wrote countless...

For Mets, R.A. now stands for "Rebuilding ahead"

When I had the opportunity to interview R.A. Dickey last month, he told me that people were still suspicious of knuckleballers:   The problem is, people still have this bias against the pitch. They think it's a gimmick, they think it's a trick pitch, illegitimate, whatever adjective you want to try and put there you can. It takes a little while to get people past that....

New Mets prospect apologizes for anti-gay slur

New Mets prospect Noah Synderaard — acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays in the R.A. Dickey trade — has already mastered the fine art of heading off the New York media before they get a chance to splatter a misstep all over the back pages. Yesterday, when the righthanded pitcher was asked to comment during a conference call where he was introduced — along with catcher Travis...

Blue Jays the Early Favorites to Win World Series After Picking Up R.A. Dickey

The Toronto Blue Jays are the early favorite to win the World Series after an offseason that has seen the top choice change several times so far. First the Detroit Tigers were the 2013 World Series favorites at Bovada. The Tigers have had a good offseason so far, signing former Angels outfielder Torii Hunter and re-signing pitcher Anibal Sanchez, the No. 2 free-agent hurler on the...

From Left Field: In Mets’ History, Farm System Has Lacked Strong Hitting

After the trade sending R.A. Dickey to the Blue Jays, I started thinking that the Mets really have never developed a top-notch catcher out of their minor league system. Todd Hundley is closest thing to being a productive home-grown catcher, which isn’t exactly saying much. Of course, the most productive catchers in team history, Gary Carter and Mike Piazza, were acquired via trade...

Halos done dealing, but maybe not rivals

After the Blue Jays acquired R.A. Dickey earlier this week, I polled 20 baseball scouts and executives for their American League East predictions. The timing was right. The Dickey trade could be the division's last huge move this offseason. Wednesday, the Los Angeles Angels sent designated hitter Kendrys Morales to the Seattle Mariners for left-hander Jason Vargas. Undoubtedly...

Links of the Day 12/20/12

Last links of the day ever? If that’s the case, then this was the last radio show ever. Of course, we’re all but certain to have seen the last NHL game ever, Mayan Apocalypse or not. Japanese shortstops: not entirely reliable. RA Dickey is 38. SCOREBOARD None…

Mets 2013 Top 10 prospects

It was not so long ago when the Mets had an impressive major league roster but their list of minor league prospects left a lot to be desired. Now, in late 2012 after the trade of R.A. Dickey, the model has been flipped on its head. Despite having two of last year’s top five prospects from my list (Matt Harvey (#1) and Kirk Nieuwenhuis (#5)) graduate to the majors, this group is...

Coming to grips with the Mets’ 2013 payroll

Now that the R.A. Dickey and David Wright questions have been answered, the Mets can move on to other business.  But before we can get into specifics, let’s go back and look at one of the most fundamental questions there is as far as team building: What’s the available payroll for 2013? After last year, when fans were lied to repeatedly over what the actual payroll was going...

Dugout Digest - finishing touches

With a majority of the high ticket free agents off the market, a lot of teams are simply working on putting the finishing touches on their teams for the 2013 season. The Blue Jays put the capper on their outstanding offseason by acquiring RA Dickey from the Mets, and then agreeing to a contract extension with him. The A's picked up Japanese shortstop Hiroyuki Nakajima, who thinks...

Hey Sandy, Where Did All The Fun Go?

I watched an episode of the Simpsons not too long ago as they parodied Moneyball (the movie). It left me wondering whether some of these sabermetric gurus really believe they have the data to invent and reinvent winning formulas by selecting from hundreds of traits and hand picking numerical outliers? Professor Frink of course was the brain behind Lisa’s reliance on statistics...
