from Pride of the Yankees Blog: Jason feels fans are justified in viewing A-Rod this way: Fair? Most say no. I say yes. The Yanks, for better or worse, are expected by their fans and management, to deliver a World Series every year. Any player, role or star, who is instrumental in doing just that, hoisting a trophy, will be forever loved.Once ARod does that, IF he does it at all, he'll enter the Pantheon of Yankee Lore. Until then, we'll marvel at his stats and wonder how it could all go so wrong in October. ARod knew this when he agreed to the trade in 2004. He knew it when he re-signed this past off-season. He knows it now. And he knows the answer to the fair/unfair question, too.Hell yeah it's fair.Color us as part of the "Most say no" crowd. A-Rod's performance dips in October. That's a fact, and nobody has to convince us of it. We have numbers: Reg. Season Post Season OPS .957 .844 HR/AB 1/14 1/21 We could go on, but that's not the focus of today's entry. The question is, is it fair to compare A-Rod's October struggles and expect a "Scott Brosius" stretch out of him? I think everybody realizes that A-Rod will always be treated unfairly until he has a good postseason. He can stack up all the numbers he wants in the regular season, but until he does it in October..he just won't get the credit he deserves. Honestly..I don't even believe he needs to have a "great postseason", but just a decent one. If the Yankees won the World Series..I believe people would get off his back.
