Small White Ball:
This guy here is Shawn Chacon, major league pitcher....well, probably former major league pitcher now. No, not because of this picture which ol' S.C. will look back on as a much better scene that what he did today in Houston, Texas.
Chacon is upset because he got demoted to the bullpen over the weekend, he of the 2-3 record and 5.04 ERA in 15 starts for the Astros. They're not exactly, well, winning a lot so they changed it up. However, Chacon decided he really didn't like it. According to Chokes, this is what happened:
"I sat down to eat and Ed Wade came to me and very sternly said, 'You need to come with me to the office,"' Chacon said. "I said 'for what?' I said 'I don't want to go to the office with you and Cooper.' And I said, 'You can tell me whatever you got to tell me right here.' He's like, 'Oh, you want me to tell you right here?' And I said, 'yeah.' I'm not yelling. I'm calm."
First off, if you're a 2-3 pitcher and your manager/GM ask to you come talk to them, you go. You offer to carry them on your back or maybe you bring in a chariot of some sort. In any case, you respect your bosses enough to go. Back to our story as it gets better.
"He started yelling and cussing," Chacon said of Wade, according to a story on the Houston Chronicle's Web site. "I'm sitting there and I said to him very calmly, 'Ed, you need to stop yelling at me. Then I stood up and said, 'You better stop yelling at me.' I stood up. He continued and was basically yelling."
Or else what, Shawn? You were going to take your 2-3 record somewhere else?
Chacon said that after Wade told him he needed to "look in the mirror," it got worse. "So at that point I lost my cool and I grabbed him by the neck and threw him to the ground. I jumped on top of him," he said. "Words were exchanged."
Riiiight. Telling someone to look in the mirror is so disrespectful. Bravo, Shawn...bravo for standing up for your rights as a terrible player. But you admit some guilt, right? I mean, you did kinda do something wrong.
"Maybe it shouldn't have happened," Chacon said. "But when you do those things and you're yelling at somebody and you're cussing you better know what type of person you're dealing with. If there's any regret, I just wish they had just let me alone. I wish they had left me alone."
Left you alone? Because your sterling record indicates otherwise? Were you about to turn it around, Shawn? Did they miss out on a huge July and August? And what type of person are you: someone that will choke out their General Manager despite the fact that person made a huge error in giving you $2 million to get five decisions in 15 starts to begin with? Give me a break, man.
Now suspended indefinitely, this assclown of the 45-61 career record with a career-high of 11 wins has hopefully pitched his last game ever in a baseball uniform. There's a certain level of decency and respect you show the people that hired you and because of this, I can't see another GM ever saying that this is the type of guy they want on their team.
I hope you enjoy the $14 million+ in career earnings you had, Shawn, as I wouldn't expect you to see another penny from a team the rest of your life.
