Since 2009 Andruw Jones has hit 61 homeruns.  Not very impressive.  However, consider he is no longer a full-time player and that 30% of his hits have been of the round-trip variety, and suddenly that's not too shabby. Over the past 4 seasons, Jones has played for the Rangers, White Sox, and Yankees (all hitter's parks).  He's collected 203 hits, while clubbing 61 HR and has knocked in 149 runs.  Although his batting average has not eclipsed .247, his OPS remains in the near the mid .800's because of his power stroke.  In fact, of his 203 hits, 104 have gone for extra bases (51%).Andruw Jones may not be the elite outfielder he once was, but he certainly makes his base hits count these days.

New York Yankees: Mariano vs. Soriano

Mariano vs. Soriano is a topic considered sacrilegious in Yankee Universe that no one wants to brooch but with the recent rumors that Mariano Rivera could return in 2012 it has to be. Rafael Soriano (Photo credit: Wikipedia) First let me be clear in stating my opinion that Rivera is the greatest closer ever to play the game. There is no other like Mo, and there never will be but...

Report: Yankees' Rivera wants to return this season

The New York Yankees are not expecting closer Mariano Rivera to return until next season, but Rivera said he wants to return this year. Rivera, 42, tore his anterior-cruciate ligament on May 3, but did not have surgery until June 12. Rivera is still operating under the assumption that he probably won't be back this season. But the New York Post reported last week that his...

Yankees' backup left fielders keep coming through

Brett Gardner has appeared in just nine games for the Yankees this season, and none since injuring his right (non-throwing) elbow attempting a diving catch on April 17. As general manager Brian Cashman said Sunday, the Yankees barely have missed the speedy outfielder and lineup pest because of the presence of two aging players whose skill sets won't be confused with Gardner...

Pineda Spotted On Workout Break In Tampa

Brian Cashman's legacy trade victim was seen yesterday lounging on a steel re-enforced bench, after sprinting 11 feet." My arm feels great and I look forward to moving from tossing the beanbag to the baseball in a couple of months."Meanwhile, the certain Yankee "phenom-to-be" is concentrating on the physical aspects of the game.Glad he is one of us and not one of them.

Darnell McDonald Designated for Assignment by Yankees to Make Room for CC Sabathia on Roster

Darnell McDonald is a Yankee no longer. The former Red Sox outfielder, who was claimed off waivers by the New York Yankees after the Sox let him go, has been designated for assignment once again. As a corresponding roster move, the team activated CC Sabathia off the disabled list. In four games with New York, he went hitless while striking out twice in his four plate appearances...

Read This Once And Forget Everything Else You See Or Hear On The Subject

Brett Gardner's injury has still not been properly diagnosed. Until it is, and until he exits the Hospital For Special Surgery with a successful operation, he is not playing baseball again.  He does not need more rest.  He needs repair.  I have been saying this since he went away.  And you all know that.  So take a deep breath, have a dozen manhattans, and forget about...

Yankees 6, Blue Jays 0(7)

Hiroki Kuroda pitched four-hit ball, Mark Teixeira hit a two-run homer in a four-run first inning and the New York Yankees completed a thorough sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays with a 6-0, rain-shortened victory Wednesday. The game was called after a 58-minute rain delay before the Yankees could come to bat in the seventh. Nick Swisher and Andruw Jones each had run-scoring hits in...

Ibanez grand slam gives Yankees a victory

NEW YORK -- Toronto Blue Jays reliever Jason Frasor had just frozen Nick Swisher on a called third strike with the bases loaded to record the second out of the eighth inning and quiet the Yankee Stadium crowd. Frasor appeared to be in position to escape the jam with the score still tied, but, as opponents have said all season, there is little relief in the New York Yankees lineup...

New York Yankees Eye-Balling Upton, Victorino

Now that the New York Yankees pitching has improved much more than at the start of the season — even without the likes of CC Sabathia, who is on the disabled list — the buzz in New York is the Yankees are scoping an outfielder to their roster. Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that two players the Yanks could be targeting are Arizona Diamondbacks right fielder Justin Upton and...

Yankees 6, Blue Jays 1

NEW YORK -- The New York Yankees got one of their best players back from the disabled list just as the Toronto Blue Jays put one of theirs on the DL. CC Sabathia returned with one of his best outings of the season, pitching six innings of shutout ball in the Yankees' 6-1 win Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium. While the Blue Jays absorbed their second straight loss to the AL...
