New York Yankees left-hander Andy Pettitte will return to New Jersey this week to make the next start of his comeback. Pettitte is scheduled to be on the mound Wednesday night when the Trenton Thunder, New York's Double-A team, hosts the Erie SeaWolves. It will be the second minor league game Pettitte appears in this season, as he tries to return to the majors following a one-year retirement. It’s getting really close now. Yankees starter Andy Pettitte, who came out of retirement this spring, has been catching up on the work he missed back in March and is nearly ready to start the season. He is expected to pitch this Wednesday for Double-A Trenton and will throw between 80 and 85 pitches, according to George King of the NY Post. Manager Joe Girardi said that he...

The Yankee beat: Hughes, Pettitte, and Gardner

The Yankees got a strong start from CC Sabathia tonight and the offense continued to click as they beat the Texas Rangers 7-4. Here is our recap. And here is the latest from the Yankees blogosphere. The Yankee Analysts asks, at what point do you give up on Phil Hughes? As a starter, he really doesn’t have much time left but with a setback to Michael Pineda will the Yankees...

Pineda to get 2nd opinion before Yankees announce MRI results

As scheduled, Michael Pineda had a dye contrast MRI done today as doctors took a closer look at his shoulder that has kept him out since March. The Yankees won’t announce the results of the tests until a second doctor gets a look at it tomorrow, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. Even before Dr. Christopher Ahmad performed the MRI on Tuesday, Pineda’s agent requested a second...

No News On Pineda After MRI

From Mark Feinsand:Michael Pineda was examined by Yankees team physician Dr. Chris Ahmad Tuesday, undergoing a dye-contrast MRI on his injured right shoulder. The team did not release the results, as Pineda's agent, Fern Cuza, had already requested that his client be seen by arm specialist Dr. David Altchek, even before the MRI had been scheduled. Joe Girardi was not disturbed...

Warning! Do not trade minor league pitching depth

The Yankees have a plethora of pitching options at the MLB level and a superfluous amount of “arms in waiting” in Triple-A ready to pitch in the major leagues at the drop of a hat. Fans see this with the impending vacancy in right field, and feel the Yankees should deal from a position of strength and go after a cost controlled, young stud right fielder. I’m here to tell...

Garcia To Start On Saturday

Following tonight's loss in Arlington, Joe Girardi announced that the Yankees will have their normal rotation after Thursday’s off day and will not be skipping Freddy Garcia. It was widely assumed that the Yanks would skip the struggling right-hander with the Tigers in town this weekend, but instead Garcia will get the ball on Saturday, with Nova pitching on Friday and CC finishing...

Yankees hold Pudge in highest esteem

ARLINGTON, Texas There's no doubt about how Ranger fans fell about now retired catcher Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez. That affinity for the 10-time Gold Glove backstop was more than apparent before Monday's series opener with the New York Yankees. But some say the true mark of a player's impact has on the game is in what his peers say about him. And like the fans...

A-Rod has a .000 average against lefties

I said all offseason, if Alex Rodriguez is healthy than I’m not worried about him. So far this season he has shown no signs of any lingering injuries and has been impressive with the way he moves around in the field. There is something to be concerned about though – A-Rod is not hitting lefties. At all. A-Rod has now played in 15 games this year, six against lefty starters...

A couple of former Yankees find jobs

A couple of former Yankees got jobs yesterday as Hideki Matsui is expected to sign with the Rays and Bill Hall signed with the Orioles, according to Jack Curry and Ken Rosenthal. The Rays have struggled to score runs and even though Luke Scott is having a solid season, he is awful against lefties so Matsui will likely platoon with him and maybe get an occasional game in the outfield...

Where does Pudge Rodriguez stand in history?

The sports news cycle is always an interesting one. Today, Pudge Rodriguez officially announced his retirement from baseball. Like most modern players, you get the idea that he could play and wanted to play, but teams are becoming more and more skittish about adding aging veterans to their squad. Part of that is the increasing money involved and part of that is as old...

Red Sox Ruining Daniel Bard Like Yankees Did with Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes?

The Boston Red Sox appear to be ruining Daniel Bard in the same way the New York Yankees have seemingly ruined Joba Chamberlain. By alternating a pitcher between a reliever to a starter to a temporary closer, it can not only mess with his psyche, but also his mechanics and confidence on the mound. You would think one team would learn from their rival’s mistake, but...
