Philly Sports Nut:
In a move that everyone saw coming, Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie officially fired Andy Reid Monday morning. Lurie had nothing but good things to say about Reid on his way out, who did get a standing ovation from team employees. Lurie also said that he didn’t fire Reid last season because he has always bounced back after a down season.
Lurie said he has a list of candidates he would like to interview, but that none had been contacted just yet. Lurie also said that he will take his time with the decision and not look to make a quick hire. According to a report from FOX, Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter will interview with the Eagles at some point this week. No Eagles employee has confirmed this.
Lurie also gave a vote of confidence for General Manager Howie Roseman, who will now have the final say on all roster moves. Roseman oversaw the 2012 draft, but had a much smaller role in the disastrous 2011 draft. Roseman will also be a big part of the head coaching search with Lurie.
All the Eagles assistant coaches are still under contract and will remain under contract until a new head coach replaces them. The new coach can keep any of the coaches on his staff that way. Running backs coach Ted Williams and assistant offensive line coach Eugene Chung are the most likely assistant coaches to stay, if any.
