The numbers say Angels righty Jered Weaver has not been the same pitcher for the past month. An MRI

agrees.

Weaver was hit in the right arm by a line shot off the bat of Mariners second baseman Dustin Ackley last

Sunday in Seattle. Three days later, he had an MRI that revealed no damage caused by Ackley's liner -- but

it revealed tendinitis in the front of Weaver's right biceps and into his shoulder, forcing the Angels ace

into confessing that he has been pitching in pain for some time.

"It just came to the point where I couldn't keep going out there at 75, 80 percent," Weaver said after

the Angels, who beat Detroit 3-2 Friday, skipped him in the rotation for this weekend's series against the

Tigers. "There were times where I was throwing fastballs at 84, 85 mph, and that's really not me.

"It was affecting me a little bit. I don't like to throw that stuff out there in the media because I'm

not a guy that likes to have excuses no matter what."

The statistics imply Weaver was bothered more than "a little bit." In Weaver's first 20 starts this

season, he was 15-1 with a 2.13 ERA, held opposing batters to a .197 batting average with 10 home runs

while striking out 101 and walking 27.

But in his five starts before the tendinitis was diagnosed, Weaver was 1-3 with a 6.14 ERA, a .293

batting average against, seven home runs, 20 strikeouts and 11 walks.

There is no timetable yet for when Weaver will return to the Angels rotation, "just whenever it works

itself out," he said.

"I'm not taking the rest of the year off, I'll tell you that. If it doesn't get any better, if I have to go

back out there at 80 percent, I'm gonna go back out there. But for right now, the best decision is to give

it a little rest and see if it can't get better."
