Torii Hunter's RBI singles tied it in the seventh inning and ended it in the ninth, and the Los Angeles Angels rallied to keep pace in the AL wild-card race with their fifth consecutive victory, 4-3 over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night. Erick Aybar had an early two-run double before Hunter ended it for the Angels (86-69), who remained two games behind Oakland (88-67) after the other three teams in the AL wild-card race all won earlier in the day. Pinch hitter Maicer Izturis opened the ninth with a single off Stephen Pryor (3-1) and advanced to third on a wild pitch and Peter Bourjos' bunt. Seattle walked rookie Mike Trout to face Hunter, who coolly stroked a single to center. Hunter, the 37-year-old outfielder who will be a free agent this winter, has been spectacular down the stretch of his fifth season with the Angels, contributing 23 RBIs in 23 games. Baltimore (89-67) is a half-game ahead of the Athletics atop the wild-card race, while Tampa Bay (85-70) has w...

Mark Trumbo Interviews with AngelsWin.com

Interview Conducted by David Saltzer, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer There's always baseball to talk about, except when there isn't. As much as we are all diehard fans, we all have interests outside of the game. This reality even stretches to the players. And, it's often very interesting to find out what piques the players' interests when they are not on the...

Jerry Dipoto Interviews with AngelsWin.com

Interview Conducted by David Saltzer, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer The Angels season is not over. They are still in the hunt with about a week left to play. However, the story lines have mostly been written and covered. It is almost time to sit back and reflect on the season that was. With that in mind, AngelsWin.com took a few minutes to talk with the person who had the greatest...

Hunter's clutch hits drive Angels past Mariners

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- Torii Hunter's RBI singles tied it in the seventh inning and ended it in the ninth, and the Los Angeles Angels rallied to keep pace in the AL wild-card race with their fifth consecutive victory, 4-3 over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday night. The Angels are Creating Outs in September

I was previewing the Angels and Mariners series that began on Tuesday, kicking off the final nine games of the season for both teams, when I noticed how well the Angels ranked in my metrics. That the Angels are good is no surprise, but the magnitude to which they had improved since they last played the Mariners at the beginning of September caught my notice. Since that last preview...

Pop Hunter Talks Torii Jr. Commitment

Receiver Torii Hunter Jr. of Prosper (Texas) High committed to Notre Dame on Saturday, and FOX Sports caught up with his father, Torii Sr., of the Anaheim Angels for comment on the decision.

Trout, Weaver in mix for postseason honors

There is no debate about the American League's Rookie of the Year this season. That award will go to Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout. However, the Angels have players involved in the debates surrounding the AL's other major awards -- MVP and Cy Young. Trout has been the leading MVP candidate for most of the second half, bidding to join Fred Lynn (1975) and...

Game Recap 9/25/12: Crunch Time - Angels 5 Mariners 4

This is it. This is what its come down to. In this incredible emotional rollercoaster of a season it's come down to the final full week of the season. Win or lose, it's going to happen now. Good to see that the Angels decided to kick off this decisive week in such a dominating fashion.  20 K's by the pitching staff, 13 of thos K's coming from Greinke in the...

Game Recap - 9/26/12: Save the drama - Angels 4, Mariners 3

There's only seven games left in the season, right?  Good, because I don't think my heart can take much more of this and that is before we even try and factor in the cardiac arrest-inducing tightrope walk that is a standard C.J. Wilson. Leave it to the Angels to mix in some drama in what was almost a must-win game considering that the Orioles and Athletics (and the...

With Greinke, Always More Questions Than Answers

No pitcher’s starts leave me with more questions than Zack Greinke‘s. Everybody knows he can be great — see his dominant 2009, the second half of 2011 — but he doesn’t always live up to the hype or the peripherals — 2010, the first half of 2011. When he’s on, he’s nearly impossible to hit; when he’s off, it’s nearly impossible to tell why. Consider his 2011:May...

Mariners 9, Angels 4

John Jaso hit a two-run homer and an RBI double for Seattle, and the Los Angeles Angels wasted a golden chance to get within one game of an AL wild-card spot with a 9-4 loss to the Mariners on Thursday. Vernon Wells and Alberto Callaspo drove in early runs for the Angels (86-70), who had won five straight and an AL-best 16 of 23 in September before stumbling in their regular-season...

Angels' playoff surge slowed by Mariners

Former first-round pick Scott Kazmir has earned a MLB Spring Training invite

Scott Kazmir’s final start of the season wasn’t run to write home about about; 4.2 innings, two earned runs, three hits, six walks, three strikeouts. But considering this is the final start of his comeback season, the fact that he is on the mound getting professional hitters out is something to write home about. Last year, after only one start with the Los Angeles Angels...

Cold Fingers

I could say that I've had cold fingers, but I've been writing about other things as needed.  Sometimes there are things I just can't say.  The last several weeks nothing seems to come off my fingers about the Angels.  Not here or anywhere:  not on message boards or doodles on my calendar,  It could be that my fingers are struggling between messages from my head...
